Just wondering what everyone is using for roof racks to carry a jon boat on their double cabs? Mine is only 12' and 100 lbs. I'm planning on getting the OEM roof rack for the front, and not sure what rack for my camper. Picked up this boat for $250.

We throw one one top of my buddies 1st gen with a Yakima(I think) roof rack no problems...

I don't think that the OEM rack is rated to hold that much though. Might wanna check on that.

Yeah the OEM is rated for 75 lbs. I'm planning on getting both cab and cap racks. I would think it'd be fine between the 2.

Yeah the lady also had a clear bottom kayak I almost picked up, but decided to save the money for a gas motor for the jon boat. Anyone have pics of kayaks or anything up top?

i think you would be safe. i was out scouting for ducks one day, and a dude come pulling in the parking lot w that exact same bot on the top. only he had one seat instead of 2. he was driving a 4 runner. i think if you drive like you have a boat on your roof,(take it easy)then you should be fine. strap it down decent and tight.

I would stow the seats and the rest of my gear in the bed of the truck and most likely flip the boat over so it was a little more aerodynamic. I'm mainly asking what camper shell rack everyone is using, and if you have good things to say about it. Just bought a nice deep cycle trolling battery yesterday, so it's almost time for a nice excursion. :D

    neglect, mostly.
why wouldn't you just put the boat in the bed of the truck? i have almost the exact same boat and i just turn it sideways and slide it in there, strap it down and hit the road.

OK, so I can't find a picture to back my story, but the boat in the background of the bottom photo used to sit atop the Yakima rack of the truck in the top photo (all got ripped-off at the Baja 1000 a couple years ago).

It used to travel well, but I doubt your boat would touch you cab's racks at all. Also, dissipating the load is critical. Notice my racks were at the far edges of the shell, and the shell is fastened very well. The roof of the shell (SnugTop) was surprisingly thick. I'd say try to avoid any serious load on the cab. It could even break your windshield.

I've only got a 5ft bed and have a camper shell on it. I haven't tried putting it in the bed yet, but might just give it a shot. Nobody has pics of a jon boat on the roof?
