I hear that when you are going to hit a deer you should hit the accelerator, not the brake. Thoughts?

well..not really accelerate, more like floor it.

    pros: front end raises up
cons: easier to get loosy goosy in the rear end and may cause more damage after you freak out and go barreling into the ditch

    neglect, mostly.
i have insurance on my truck, and im looking out for yours truely. and that means, hitting shit only if its my safest choice, and doing that the slowest, safest speed possible. . . ive hit deer, i just hit the breaks hard, but not dumb enough to skid out or wreck. and hey, im still here.

when i hit mine i just slammed on breaks.
and kinda stupid but also tried to move to the right of it. but it did only hit the edge of the front instead of head on

Also they tested this on mythbusters and it was shown to
    Cause more
Damage if you speed up. Said it's better to just decrease speed at impact

    you people crazy.

Accelerate into a deer, crazy. I know what you think you're trying to accomplish. I guess to someone from another planet that's only read a dictionary definition of car and deer, it makes a small amount of maybe theoretical possibility for sense.

Step 3: Bring vehicle to a halt safely...exit vehicle, cut shattered, broken deer's dying throat.

Step 4: Throw it in the back for the dogs at home.

Step 5: Buy beer with the money you saved on dog food.

In reality, this conversation is pointless. You will not have enough time to make this decision...... ask me how I know...... Your first reaction WILL be to hit your brakes, trust me on this.

If you have enough time to make a decision as to speed up or hit the brakes before impacting the deer, you should have enough time to avoid the entire situation.

When I hit my deer, I was driving a Chevy S10. The ran into the driver side front fender and got deflected right along the front of the truck. It only broke the headlight and the grill plastics @ about 35mph. Long story short, speeding up or slowing down makes no difference in my opinion.

I still remember the deer rolling ass over tea kettle for about 20 feet after the truck stopped.

Well, I've hit several deer since I drive several miles through deer country over the years and natural instinct is to hit the brake. If your instinct is to speed up, then I hope I never step out in fromt of you:p

But to your question, we directly addressed the force and how it is transfered in a similar situation in a Physics class not too many years ago.

A Physics prof asked us why the drunk driver of a head on crash usually lives and the other person more than likely dies.

It can be done through Physics calculations (and we did it in class) that the force transfered through the body of the drunk person is less than the person sober because the person that is sober slams on the brake and is going slower(or slowing down rapidly), thus absorbing the force of impact more than the drunk, who is driving faster, or at least doesn't touch the brakes. I thought it was a quite interesting study actually.

So as far as a deer collison, if the deers drunk and not slowing down and heading straight for ya, floor it!!!!:burnrubber::D

Are you trying to tell me that you have enough time to consciously decide " gas or brake " , but not enough time to consider " avoid " ?

    This thread is retarded .
