    I'd personally rather have a 66 or 67 Chevelle over 68.

Good call. They have way fewer problems than the first year of the newer gen.

lol - love these kinds of posts. Its like perma-Friday. Yep, the 1st year of any new or newly redesigned model will always be great. Its fact. This thread proves it.

Yeah, eff the "influencers" but I have to say I found that interesting. I'm not ready to dump my 3rd gen yet, but I'm somewhat intrigued by some of the changes. What I really don't like is all the added electronics. I don't want that TSS shit. I know how to drive. I also couldn't care less about an auto tailgate. Just more stuff to break. Hopefully some of this can be optioned out of or at least turned off but then you are paying for shit you don't want/need. Not sure about the shock absorber seats. The slightly larger footprint and larger tires stock is nice as well as better payload.

LOL, the age old refrain, "I hate new stuff, more stuff to break."

I'm betting if this forum existed a hundred years ago folks would have bemoaned "new stuff" like crank windows.

I like new stuff - as long I see value in it. I liked the BSM but it broke and I'm not paying to fix it. It wasn't that special. I like some of the new stuff, but at the same time there are things I don't want or need that jack up the price. TSS isn't free and I'd turn it off. Of course custom vehicles would be a whole lot more so we get what they want to sell us.

And yet, thousands of 1995.5/2005/2016Tacomas are still populating this website.

Im not sure i follow how people joining the site with various generations of Tacoma's has anything to do with understanding the concept that more features offered adds more potential failure parts over time.

This forum doesn’t regard those years of Tacomas as vastly less reliable, but so many seem convinced the 24 will be some undriveable heap.

because they fear change and/or are having a sour grapes moment.

But This forum does consider the gen 1 and 2 Tacoma's to be superior because of their reliability. Gen 3 the verdict is still out especially the 2018+ with the added safety features standard.

I don’t think I’ve seen many posts about the 3rd gen being unreliable, but maybe we read different threads

"The verdict is still out" doesnt imply either reliability or unreliability (7 years isnt the best benchmark for longevity) but with the added features i could make a case for it having more issues long term.

You could make that case, but you also bought a 3rd gen so obviously the case doesn’t matter much

i cant exactly buy a new 1st or 2nd gen ... but i did buy an SR so i tried my best to limit features that i didnt want or thought would be trouble 10+ years from now.

Reliably for me, is much more about playing the numbers. If you do open, comparable research (to the extent you can when talking about long term) before buying something, although there are always lemons and one-offs, odds say you are much more likely to get a long term winner re: reliability.
As was pointed out above, there is only so much data to look at with the 3rd gens, and only 1 option if you want a new(ish) Tacoma, so choices are more than limited in that instance.

Sorry, gotta call shenanigans on that comment. The fact is, many new features are far more reliable than the ones they replaced.

New features typically dont replace anything, Thats inherent in the "new" portion of the label. We arnt talking about replacing crank windows with power windows and being upset at the "new offering" (that would be ridiculous) we are talking about Blind spot monitoring system, crawl control, TSS. Added complication
