It was better than stock I would say. I still felt the weight of course but the transmission could actually manage it. I trusted ECGS with the decision and it was perfect. Even back to stockish weight its still great. I can actually pass people on a 2 lane highway, or bump the cruise up without it downshifting.

Dont waste your time or money on 4.56s. I would rather have better acceleration with 500 extra rpms at 80 than just feeling exactly like stock.

I wanted the grapplers but they were almost 100$ a tire more. Nittos are some good tires for sure

I got mine at a good price and the at3s were hard to source at the time I purchased that's why I went with the nittos. Good stuff either way. Can't wait to try those toyos out.

There is a lot of good info on this thread but I am wondering with my truck and set up what you all would suggest? I have 265s right now but going up to 285 very soon (maybe bigger in the future) I am also heavy. I don't have bumpers yet but they are on the list. I do have full skids, sliders, cap, RTT, drawers in the bed, and much more. I have troubles making the climbs in the mtns when I'm fully loaded already so a re-gear is needed. I am going to be buying a travel trailer soon also so I'm thinking 4.88s But what do you all think? Should I go with 4.56?

What is the current weight of the truck (weigh scale ticket)? 285's will put you at 33's - think 4.88 my be to low, I run 4.88's with my 35's and 730lbs over stock weight (stock is 5350Lbs - based on weigh scale ticket 3020lb Front and 3060lb Rear)

4.56 maybe perfect for you, V6 4.0 or I4? how soon until you go to 35's? buy once cry once. I am sure others that have 285's will chime in shortly and give real world advice with vehicles setup like yours

V6 auto. I do a lot of hwy driving to get to the places we like to go so I don't know how soon dirty5s would go on to preserve some MPG. I need tires now so 33s are going on probably next month. I haven't taken it over a scale yet but I have been wanting to when fully loaded but I would guess I'm around 600+ over stock weight maybe more.

I figured I'd add this in case it's useful to anyone on this thread ... 488s and 315/75/16s (can we call these 35s?) ... I just got back from a 2000 mile road trip from TX into the NM mountains. The drive to/from was all highway. On relatively flat roads I was cruising at 78-79mph / 2600-2700 RPMs. Pretty much all day. (my speedo is off. The truck speedo read 70mph and the iPhone speedometer app bounced between 78 and 79). Truck didn't skip a beat.

I would love 529s if I was off-road more than on and the 'off' was closer, but definitely happy with the 488s and would do it again knowing that I'm usually driving pretty long distances.

lol.. you are set up similar to mine. I’m stock gears on 35s. Gears waiting for me at home to install.

I’m about 15 highway like 8-9 city according to scan gauge.

hoping the 4.88s up the city a little bit..

I didn't regear to get better MPG, I wanted response. when I initially got the gears I was underwhelmed TBH. I added a pedal commander and can smoke the tires now. I want a tune though

    my truck looks like this
    33 E plan to go 35
But 6spd manual RA60F which is different ratios than AT

anyone know why there’s so much different recommendations on gears?

    3rd genners mostly go 5.29
KFlo went 4.88 by his engineer calculations (similar truck)

    ECGS said go 4.88
But local shop and Revolution said go 5.29

Odd part is the master install kit on their site (gear set, bearings, etc) shows options of 4.56 or 4.88, but not 5.29.
Plan is open front and truetrac rear for now

Ecgs doesnt reccommend 5.29s because of how small the pinion has to be.
