I see the 60 and 62 series influences more than I do the FJ25.

Yah, seems like it. Too bad. 4 runner was a nice vehicle.

Toyota threading a fine needle. Lot of hardcore 4run owners. But, maybe now thinking a steal of an upgrade to a LC and Toyota doesn't have that anymore. I am missing sumptin. What is it?

Toyota when asked at the introduction of the Land Cruiser, said the next gen 4 runner was still on its way. The LC is bigger than the 4 runner with a longer wheelbase.

The next gen 4 runner will probably revert back to being more Tacoma based like in the past, with possible pricing to match. The Base LC is still more than the 4 Runner TRD Pro. The real world pricing gap is likely to be much more with most LC available trims starting in the 60's. (Toyota doesn't put a bunch of base trims on lots)

My guess is either the 4 runner looks like a tacoma with a cap...or they go totally the opposite direction and the 4 runner is smaller (FJ sized) and is more off road focused...could go either way. But they are making it according to Toyota.

They're still trying to shove too much BS in to the darn thing. Cruisers are supposed to be spartan and robust. They currently make the Land Cruiser I want, except they don't sell it in the USA - it's the 70-series ute. I loved my diesel 60-series, but sold it because it was slow as hell and drilling out snapped bolts was a part of regular maintenance.

Initial cost and dealing with an older vehicle is why i don't get a 73 series. I'd love one but would only get one once a pile of money falls into my lap.

Same, considered importing (even have friends in Australia and New Zealand) but don’t want the hassle, that and exhausted working on vehicles, find no enjoyment in it what-so-ever.

If I ever came into a massive pile of money, I’m ringing up The FJ Company and have them build me a 43.

Only thing I like on the 40 is the way the sheet metal is bent. Thing is barbaric otherwise, like most classics need modern updating.

Always wanted a Landy, see that the Roadster Shop is now doing chassis for those now too. https://roadstershop.com/product/19...ne7aTcKGefRHH9x66uriJX2E#engine-mount-options

Though now with the new Cruiser coming, other than no SFA, which I really don’t need, is there really a point in restomodding a classic? They are an easy $300K, seems like a lot to spent just to look cool. If I am honest, if I ever came into a pile cash, probably buy a modern classic and do philanthropy work.

If I were to do a resto mod to my 80 I'd convert it to electric. I'm not a rich guy so this is a fantasy..lol. But I need to put out almost 4k to fix the mess the previous owner subjected my truck to. But still worth it. Had it 12 years so not gonna get rid of it.

Think I would just buy a Rivian R1S, those almost have an International Travelall look to me.

You got off cheap! we just put $15K into my 1st Gen. New engine, plus some other work. Tired of spinning wrenches and rather pay someone else. Wife is the main driver of it now, she didn’t really want to buy a new vehicle since she drives so little, she might put on 3000/year. That and she is a professor at a college, it is kinda beat up, don’t have to worry about dumbass students putting door dings in it. She had a loner rav4, she was terrified to drive it for fear of someone wrecking into it.

They do put 70 series suspension and drivetrain goodies under it. Supercharged 4.0 V6 too. Though rather have a diesel. But for $300K, man that is a lot of coin.

I am 51, grew up having to work on my own stuff, we also had a fleet of trucks, vans, and earth moving equipment too. Wasn’t until I bought my 3G in October of ‘21 that I stopped. That was the first time I ever let someone else even change the oil. After that, said to myself “wow that was nice!” and decided to stop working on vehicles.

The dirt bike is a lot of fussing, that keeps me busy enough as far as hobbies go. Cleaning air filters currently, fixing a countershaft seal leak, and replaced a rotten board on the moto trailer. As for vehicles, done monkeying with them, just want to get in and go.

    lol!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Still kicking myself for selling my FJ40 to my buddy. Even though it road like a brick, it was so badass!

I always was a driveway mechanic. Put in engines, brakes, trans all except alignments and tire mounting I can't do at home. BUt the alignment on the 80 I can do. JUst takes a tape measure and a couple of wrenches. I wouldn't want to do it as a career so I admire those lifetime mechanics. Tough job and dealing with lots of nasty customers

We had a shop when I lived in PA, no lift though. Pulled engines in my Chevelles and F250 with a forklift.
Our Bobcats were old and always needed attention. Fixing a broken track on the JD 555 crawler loader was always a fun day, two if you’re lucky!

Moved to AZ and lost all those conveniences, and became a driveway mechanic, spent years crawling around on the ground with basic hand tools. Rebuilt most of the under carriage in the 1st Gen before we moved to Idaho. All new suspension, rear end, CVs, poly bushings, steering rack, driveshaft, brakes, radiator, rebuilt the starter too. Think I have rebuilt the suspension 4 times on that truck since I owned it.

Kinda done smelling like diesel and grease, ya know. Old days before I went soft, remember never could get my hands totally clean. Was kinda embarrassing going on dates or out to eat with the family.
