The vibration is the one consistent downside for the CB500X. As a city bike, or something you don't travel interstates with, I think it's perfect. Who knows, though. Maybe I'll get the bark busters, crash bars, and skid plate on and it'll mellow it out. Your guess is as good as mine!

As for the boots, I plan to try on more of them when I can. Next weekend I might be able to find a shop, but most of the "adventure" boots aren't in stock at most shops around here. Dirt bike boots and harley pirate leather galore, but anything outside that is slim pickings.

It's a parallel twin, so it's not a balanced engine by any means, so I'm not super surprised it's pretty vibe-y. My BMW will shake me to bits if I spend too long over 5k rpms. One other thing you could do is go up a tooth on the front sprocket to lower your RPM's at cruising speeds. Should be a pretty cheap mod to try and one tooth shouldn't be enough to need to buy a longer chain and within the limits of your adjusters.

Look at TCX brand boots. Mine are a sport touring boot, waterproof, zip up closure with a storm flap and velcro covering. They run wider than most other brands. Sizes are European style so be sure to try them on. My first pair lasted me over 100k miles before soles got really thin and separated some allowing some water intrusion.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Holy shit. Looked down at a red light and I was missing my front sprocket bolt?!?! Damn, that could have been nasty!

This is a common mod for better highway cruising.

Is your chain adjusted properly? On my Versys if the chain is too tight or too loose it can cause crazy vibrations in the pegs.

Also consider something like highway pegs or extended crash cage that you can rest your legs on for short periods of time to get your feet off the vibrations.

I miss my boxer engine for that - just lift up and rest your feet on top of the heads for a break.

I really like the stock exhaust on the FJR. Sounds perfect to me.

not the first time I read this happening on a ktm
between the bolt coming loose and or a leaking seal, ktm has somewhat of a history with counter shaft sprocket issues

Yeah, it got torqued and glued. This is my first experience with it…so my track record has been pretty good.
That makes for a nasty situation if it comes loose at speed bro!

As a former trackaholic, I couldn’t leave the stock pipes on the FJR, lol.

For long distance rallying and particularly the Iron Butt Rally they actually use a decibel meter to check ho loud you are. Stock pipes for me on the FJR. My Buell however is a different story........Damned hooligans.....:bikewheelie2:

I never put pipes on my 1190r as I usually put lots of miles on per day on it. The vtwin does sound amazing with a set of pipes, as did my 1290r SuperDuke. But the drone would beat on you after a few hours.

Did you start whispering dirty things to your buddy? That's what I would have done. "Oh yeah. Squeeze that clutch. MMMM. Pull that brake lever!"
