Finally set the timing on the AMG. Torqued it down and turned the motor over a couple times only to find the intake cam wasn't returning to where it should. So, overnight new bolt and try again....

I get asked occasionally why we keep him in a harness all the time and not a regular collar, with this dude's giraffe neck it's a necessity. His long ass neck is practically wider than his head so he can slip out of a collar with ease

not to mention the harness is much easier to control his size/strength with when his prey drive kicks in

I couldn't do the spike collar in good conscious lol, Dex is really good about staying next to me 95% of the time walking but when he sees something to chase there's just no talking him out of it. He'd probably pull a spike collar until it punctured him

@Empty_Lord any idea why a cam would move off time after rotating the engine a few times? It was locked in position and timed correct prior to rotating it. Seems odd and I'm not sure what I did wrong. Same process worked on the driver's side.

@eon_blue has he throw the collar before? I've kept our dogs pretty loose, I can remove venices without unbuckling it but never have I seen her wiggle out of it. Its 2 finger minimum on the other two.

Not a 5vz. Crank was set to where it's supposed to be and the tools lock the cams and pulse wheels. Torqued everything don, removed timing tools and now it's off by about a tooth. Can't figure it out. Maybe slack in the chain? While complicated, dohc are rather straight forward, I just can't figure out how it could change once things rotate around. Oh well. New bolt and I'll try again.

He did once early on, yeah. Wife was getting him into the house when he spotted a squirrel and pulled backward slipping right out of the collar and bolted across the street, didn't have it super loose either. That was when we got the harness

Nope, he about knocked me on my ass when i went to pick him up. I think he enjoyed it but he's definitely glad to be back splayed out around the house

The cats aren't so thrilled, they had a nice reprieve with him gone for awhile lol

chain? if the tensioner relies on oil pressure and has a ratchet mechanism on it, the chain slack will throw timing off unless you let the tensioner out
