    Way too close for comfort!

:woot: Cashed my big Mega Millions winner in, found out it was worth $4.00 instead of $2.00. :)

A little something every chance we get.
Got to be a back-up Docent to a good one today. Find out how much you don't know....
We may have 6 flying planes, but not a day goes by something is not being tended to. T-6 was out this morning, getting the air speed indicator equipment looked at this afternoon; C-47 heads back out on tour in a few days.

Interesting, I did not see any docks, must be a law against building them.

I have a nephew and he sells all types of insurance. One of the carriers he represents will no longer issue fire insurance in Hawaii. The trend will probably grow.

Last time I lookes a Sharing Size bag of chips was over $4.00 on Sale. LOL Small bag it is,

Does a maintenance technician accompany the plane when it is touring or does the pilot do duty for both needs?

Good morning. Truck is almost packed, and we will be leaving at 6am. Supposed to have rain a good portion of the trip today, oh yea. Time to slow it down and take it easy.

Great point, however I don't like some of those cliffs that seem pretty high. That one home looks like it's about to fall down one, at least from the airel shot.

Any power lines? Our power company will remove problem trees if the power lines are near.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Hope these clouds can hang on a couple few more hours for mowing! Oh well, doesn't get to 107* until the afternoon anyway! Have a great pre-Friday!

Good question Tom. And not necessarily. Sometime, the pilots on a tour aren't even local members - everyone can use more pilots. If a tour is like 30 days or so, it usually gets split up into crew segments of a week or two. If one of the mechanics happens to want to be ground crew on a trip, they can go as part of the ground support. Basically, when we let them go out, they are 100% serviced and checked, to avoid any problems. Places we do shows are ALWAYS very helpful of smaller issues that come up. But since tours are all volunteer, that's who goes!

Why would insurance companies insure anything that is actually likely to be a risk? Pretty soon we will only be able to buy insurance for risk that would prohibit paying off a loan... and that will be required in order to get the loan.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/fire eaters. The firestorm in HI has me thinking about cheech, who lives in HI and used to post here. I just tried looking up his username and it seems to be gone. Hope he's okay. I have a high school classmate who's living some kind of bohemian life on Maui; according to what I see on FB he's been evacuated and he's safe, but apparently has only the clothes on his back. Not that he had much more than that before the fire, from what I can gather.

And don't talk to me about insurance! What a @#$%^&&*(*! racket. My wife had two at-fault automobile fender benders within 10 weeks last year, and our car insurance carrier for the past 35 years dropped us. We're not talking about some sort of wild driving here either. One of the incidents was a fender scrape in a parking lot! They didn't raise our rates, they didn't put us on some kind of special notice, they just dropped us. After 35 years. No chance for appeal. Theoretically we could have appealed to the state insurance commission, but several agents we talked to said it was not worth the time and effort. The commission rubber stamps whatever the insurance companies send them.

We had our cars, home, and an umbrella policy with a single carrier, but since they dropped us like a hot rock I decided to drop them too. Good thing, as it turns out, because they had allowed our home coverage to become woefully insufficient. (Note to all: check your homeowner's policy to see if it has kept pace with recent home price inflation.) A little bit later the outfit that insures our 'fun' cars dropped us too, so now we were utterly without coverage.

Long story short: we're insured again, but it is costing a lot more and the companies are not all at the top of the heap. Not that I think any of them are on much more than a trash heap anyway at the moment! It was pure h*ll trying to find anyone to provide car insurance, and we had to get a special policy that excludes my wife from driver's coverage on the 'fun' cars altogether.

What a nightmare. Insurance: what a @#$%^&&*(*! racket.

Similar yet different insurance story here.

Last year I was in the process of getting quotes for a new roof for my house. All the homes in my development are roughly the same age and some owners had already had new roofs put on. Really bad storm came through, lots of wind, even a decent amount of hail. Next door neighbor had a roofing company looking at their roof and walked over to talk to me mentioning the hail damage. I already had a quote and was almost ready to pull the trigger but figured I'd talk to them it can't hurt. Their rep comes over, brings a ladder, and goes up on my roof. They come down not long after and show me pics on their phone of hail damage and start asking me about my homeowner's insurance. They made all the calls and handled everything on my behalf and I got a new roof installed for just the cost of my deductible. $1700 versus more than $10,000. Save me a nice chink of money. Whole thing start to finish was about 6 weeks.

Meanwhile neighbor who came over to talk has the same insurance company, State Farm, and they deny their claim! Their house is a few months newer than mine, same builder, same design but State Farm tells them what they have is NOT hail damage! Another neighbor less than a block away gets the same news even being told their "hail damage" was just " foot traffic"! Foot traffic on the roof of a 2-story house with a fairly steep roof pitch? WTF? I asked that neighbor if perhaps they meant hoof traffic form Santa's reindeer at Christmas. I went so far as printing out all of my email communications with State Farm and sharing it with those 2 neighbors in hopes that might help with their cases but it was to no avail.
