Even with the stock pipes if I'm doing an Iron Butt ride I wear ear plugs inside my helmet to protect my hearing.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Hahahaha…reminds me of that scene from that old movie Real Genius. They implant a device in Kent’s mouth who had been giving them a hard time.
    Classic!

I've no interest in distance riding; super-slabbing it for hours is a bore to me. I'll take 3 hours of twisties over 6 hours of slabbing it. Admittedly, I don't tour or ride my FJR like a tourer. I'm a former sportbike guy so sporty riding is what I like. But my wife likes to ride with me now and then so the FJR fits the bill quite nicely for now.

Interesting. Question for @50Buck Is it RPM or speed based? The buzzing at 75-80mph, is it the same if you drop speed and drop a gear to acheive the same RPM. Im think its potentially tire balance at speed, which some balancing beads could help.

The parallel twin on my Super Tenere is quite smooth....

It's RPM based. To run at 75-80 you're pushing the little 471cc pretty hard. It's a 180° crank twin, so they are known for vibration. This isn't unique to my bike. All the CB500Xs vibrate at higher speeds. I think, but could be wrong, the Super Ten is a 270° so it's less vibey.

    This!
My Scrambler 900 EFI has a 270 crank and doesn’t buzz too bad (also sounds killer with a 2into1 pipe) but my old XS650 bobber (180 crank) rattled like holy hell

I mean yeah i bet you are spinning pretty good rpms to go that speed. As mentioned up a tooth in the front and down one in the back will help cruising rpms at the detriment to acceleration and easy take off.

You wanna talk vibration, grom @ 9k rpms doing 65..... oof. And yeah the 270* on the tenere helps (as do the two counter balance shafts haha)

Yeah, the low end tractor behavior would be gone if you did both sprockets. There's a guy who did the TAT on 500X and he had at one point done the front, but felt it lost a bit too much and reverted it in favor of a rear that was a slightly better ratio. I'm not sure I'll tinker with either. I may just plan trips that don't require anything over 65 MPH. I'm never in a rush on the bike, so leisurely rides are okay by me. It'd just keep me from taking any big trips on it. For that I'll have to consider upgrading or getting a second bike...

Front sprockets are cheap and easy to swap and you wont need a new chain. Could be worth a try.

For me I want at least 60 hp for a bike I plan on using on the highway.

Perhaps, but I'm not even to my first oil change yet. Everything keeps getting in the way, so I'll wait until at least next spring before I worry about changing anything like that.

All depends on where the HP is at in the revs. If it'll get you 60 HP but needs 8500 RPM to do it... :notsure: Mine doesn't feel like it can't run at speed, it's just the vibration. I bet I could push it plenty fast, and even in 6th there's more throttle to go running at 80 MPH.

Depends, if it's a 4 cyl (like a ZX4R) that has 16k rpm to play with, 8500 is nothing. Plus, it's not that a bike needs 60 hp to go 80 mph, but it's so much less stressed at highway speeds. I used to ride 100 miles a day on the highway on my 27 hp supermoto at 65-70 mph.
