    LOL...yep, first time you drop it off at the shop for a little fueling issue and get hit with a 10K repair bill....it will make you reevaluate how much you really need a diesel for...

    That is good to hear, unfortunately you have to buy upper packages to get them, bunch of stuff I don’t want or need. Even my SR has options on it that I don’t use, and that is considered fairly basic by most.

    @ReubenSandwich, did find this. SR has the 22.5 gal fuel tank. Payload is the best at 1810 lbs.

    Out of curiosity built up a F150XL, can pick options better. 3 engine choices for the XL, did the 5.0 V8, vinyl seats, rubber flooring, get to pick gear ratio/locking diff, extended range 36 gal tank, payload package of 3325 lbs! which includes max towing 13,000 lbs, larger information screen (without having to get a premium package). Think the Ford is the better buy.

    With the recent engine issues of the 3rd gen Tundra I would agree, with both you need to buy the extended bumper to bumper warranty, and trade them before the warranty is up. Until something changes and they figure some things out on the Tundra, the reliability advantage is not in play at the moment, making the F150 probably the better buy.

    I like how the “50 state emissions” is part of a package. I’d hate to get the “0 state emissions” baseline SR5.

    Lol! Idaho did recently eliminate emissions testing this past July, so maybe I can get a discount???

    When I worked for Ford we had 50 state emissions & California emissions. So jokes and more importantly politics aside, is California not one of the 50 states? Also all bordering states received Cali emission vehicles as well.

    What was the difference between CA compliant and non back then? Was it just the catalytic convertors?

    I remember looking it up, but honestly can't recall now. I was on the sales side so I learned why there were 2 emission compliances in case someone asked me. But now I no longer care!

    It really sucked because I was in charge of our new car pricing, I was a big ol dirty whore advertising at invoice less holdback less $500 on pretty much everything sans Raptors and GT500's. I'd get customers calling from out of state in California wanting to buy a new F-150 with the 6.2 for example and I couldn't sell it to them because then they would not be able to register the truck. Well I could sell it to them and it become their issue, but I wasn't that type of sales director.

    @taco terror -- Also, the T24A & V35A have liquid cooled exhaust manifold going into the turbo. I'd imagine that the cooled gasses help with reducing heat, not sure how much though. I believe VW did this first with the 1.8 TSI that replace the NA 2.5 I5.

    @SwollenGoat -- There's no doubt that the Big 3 have more options for the "base" model.

    Toyota ain't lyin' when they said the Tundra is a lifestyle truck, which is kinda sad; but:

    The SR gets standard:
    -LEDs Eeadlights;
    -Power Rear Windows;
    -Heated Side Mirrors;
    -Auto HVAC;
    -Low Range 4WD (looking at you GM);
    -Headlight Level Adjustment;
    -The Safety Sense Stuff (I know some people don't like it.)
    -8,300 Towing
    -"1,810" Payload
    -Keyless Entry

    Not bad for about 44K in this world. This is what I meant by value. Although, I don't mind the standard cloth seats and flooring, Toyota missed an opportunity, by standardizing bucket seats bottom up. Cost cutting at its finest. The 1996 Tacoma has a vinyl rood liner, but carpet mats & flooring, go figure.

    Ford is the most customizable for any trim. GM & RAM are ok enough.
    Fun Fact: For 2023, the Heavy Duty Payload Package is only available on XL.

    Also, after experiencing my parent's 2012 Volt, I love low-end torque; I'd go for the 3.5 EB. 273 lb⋅ft doesn't sound like a lot, but that little bugger throws hard when punched. Horrible sight lines though, HORRIBLE.

    I'd imagine I'd melt over the 3.5 EB's 500 lb⋅ft.
    I know a lot folks swoon over the 2.7 EB, but if the iron block was so good, why doesn't Ford use it the 3.5 EB? After all, the 3.5 is big dog being able to towing 14K. I'm thinking Ford uses that as marketing more than really needing it.

    Would you consider a 2001 f250 suitable for “making money?”

    I would, kids down the road have the Chevy version of that and built a successful lawn care business. Remember watching them 9 years ago as teens go from walking around with push mowers, then upgraded to a riding mower. Now have multiple trucks/trailers and equipment. They also do snow clearing and holiday lights installation.

    Must be doing “ok” they have enough extra money to buy dirt bikes and a couple bagged C10s.

    Sure, but since you don't have to pay 50K or more for it, its kinda not my point. The 01 F250 had a respectable payload for the time. 2500-3700 lbs tow rating was in the 12,500 range but at least it had the payload to handle it.

    You realize that both of those numbers are f-150 numbers now, right?

    Oh, you got me...I didn't;t see that coming....lol.....The F150 is still not a HD work truck, with the components that come with 3/4 ton and 1 tons so again, if I am spending over 50K on a truck, its going to be a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Thats just my personal feelings on the matter but then again, I don't look for my trucks to be plush, comfortable vehicles filled with creature comforts either. If I need a vehicle to serve that purpose, there are better vehicles to buy for that.

    My Tacoma is a compromise, it has enough utility for the things I need a truck for at the moment, its relatively comfortable, reliable and the cost didn't break the bank when you compare features and capability. If I needed something to tow more than the Tacoma right now, I would probably buy a low mileage 2/2.5 gen Tundra. If I needed something with more payload than that has, I'm not sure what I would buy at the moment.

    since you don’t care about comforts, why would you be comparing a $50k version of the f-150 when XLs can be had in the low 30s?

    With the payload package. Kinda amazing how far we have come. Dead give away is the wheels, was out running to the PO by the farms this morning, noticed a few F150 RCLBs farm trucks with those wheels and thought, hey they must have the payload package! I want one!

    Where in the world are you finding a F150 XL 4WD in the low 30s? Basic no option other than 4WD, RCSB with the NA V6 starts at $41K+

    2WD is $35K.
