Because...the post that started this, was if I recall, talking about a SR5 Tundra costing over 50K, and a F250 XL coming in not much more than that, and I pointed out that no matter the creature comforts if I were buying a truck over 50K it would have HD capabilities. I am not in the market for an F150 or any other non Toyota 1/2 ton so the low 30's XL is useless to me.

I am not sure I understand the point your trying to make either, but I am bored and will play along

The market for a nicely equipped half ton doesn’t have a lot of Venn diagram overlap with the market for a vinyl floor HD truck. That’s my point. It’s a fairly useless comparison

Same, looked at everything from Subarus to F350s. Taco was the Goldilocks at this point and venture in life. In 5 years is another story. Or just may keep it super simple and make the Tacoma work. Don’t really need much in the grand scheme of things.

Similar outlook. Lay the cash on the table and compared what could bought for said cash. In the realm of $50K+ trucks. F250 seems like the best deal out of all them, even if you have to give up some creature comforts, of course these days and the most basic truck is still fairly convenient. Think they all come with power windows and locks these days, among many other things. My lowly SR has way more options standard than my TRD 1st Gen. Drove it last night to dinner, feels almost barbaric compared to my 3rd Gen.

I think the original point alluded to how expensive the 2024 Tundra is ...and more expensive than the competition. Until something changes with the reliability issues, it's not that great of a buy at the moment...and if your gonna spend that much money you might as well get something with more capability. Unless of course you don't care about trucks doing truck stuff....and if thats the case, roll on with the fancy car with a bed..

I know what you mean about base trucks having plenty of creature comforts. I had a Tradesman Ram 2500 that had as many creature comforts as most anything else....I forget truck forums don't really mean truck forums sometimes....lol. Gets me into trouble every time..

So for fun I built the XL 150 with payload package, mind you the capabilities are still less, lower payload and towing than the HD truck, you can't get the diff ratio you can on the 250 build etc.

It came out with no options but the mechanical configuration (super cab 8 ft box 4wd hd payload, etc ) no other options added to 45K.... SO Yeah...I'm still gonna buy the HD (250/350) if its a Ford.

For some, a 25% or so increase in price matters. For others, not so much. You do you, I’m just saying that parading around saying “half-ton” trucks lack the capability to do “truck stuff” is utter nonsense.

Apples to apples, performing the same work, towing the same stuff, hauling the same weights, year after year...I would put money on the HD truck being in better shape at the end than the F150 including lower maintenance costs. So...for that purpose, the 250 is again the better buy....

I guess our definitions of truck stuff is different...lol. And in the example between the SR5 Tundra and XL F250 I think the difference was closer to 9%...

I mean, you yourself admitted that the 2001 f-250 can do truck stuff.

but somehow truck stuff isn’t the same when a f-150 can do it.

Jumped in the 1G last evening, went to look for the outside temp (not there), the clock, (also not there), wife mainly drives it now, went to adjust the side mirrors and had to roll down the window to do it. Hey Siri…play The Tragically Hip….well shit! Not there either! Ha! annnnd gaaaaawd damn that thing rides like brick, have Dakar Heavies on it for a pop up camper, which the camper has been sold, need to throw a load of firewood back there and leave it so it rides better!

You got that right! They should call these forums “Family Trucksters”…don’t do much hauling other than asses. :D

I'd go this route for low $50's, several dealers will order below invoice putting you in the $51-53k range for a truck with 18,200 tow capacity and a 3,500lb payload. locking rear, off road pkg, black wheels and accents really make it look like a upgraded truck when it's not.

It can do it, but my point was...again, If I am spending that much money for a truck to do truck stuff with, I'm gonna choose the HD truck. Why would you not choose the machine that was built for heavier duty service from the ground up. You can do whatever you want...my point was if you push me in the corner to spend 50K or more on a Truck....I'm buying the HD.... It's not an attack on people that buy 1/2 ton or midsize trucks etc...

If it wasn’t for me having the knack for taking naps on lunch, would love me a regular cab. Though a FWC would cure that! Not sure I would want to go back to work though. Reclining the seat in an extra cab is just uncomfortable enough not to sleep too hard…
