    i have the 2TR-FE and i've had the same experience. I wonder if these engines run on 91 in Japan and they are just using the ECU to adjust to lower octane grades.

    It’s all I complain about, it’s a manual.

    Having to work thru 4 underdrive gears every time makes no sense.

    One option would be to have a granny gear, so that you just start in 2nd unless you are pulling stumps.

    Or, make a highway cruiser that has 5th as slightly overdrive and a 6th as very overdrive. 6th for steady cruising at high speed on interstate highways.

    I realize they felt the need to make mileage targets under very contrived circumstances.

    Genuinely curious why that makes no sense.

    First gear is already pretty low IMO. If lower 1st is needed, 2WD low mod to the rescue.:)

    tried a tank of 87 in 95 degree heat. was not a good experience. engine did not like it.
