TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

others will definitely know better than I, but I would say it’s not super likely. The one I bought, and I later gained some knowledge that it had been on more than one truck in its life, and if I had to guess over 200 K miles.

The tricky part, is that the rotors spun, perfectly smooth by hand when it was off the vehicle. I had no indication until Mike started it up for the first time. It was then very apparent stuff was worn out.

The main noise, is when the camera is near the back of the supercharger, it sounds like gravel in a plastic bucket, rolling down a driveway.

 

Yeah no bueno noisey.

Im 100% prepared and capable to take it apart and replace bearings, just need to know if there are certain things to look for as far as wear.

 

See my above post for wear indication… not a ton unless it’s on a vehicle.

I sent the housing out to SCOL as they were pretty close by and the time I did not have the time to do this maintenance on my own. I needed the daily driver back as soon as possible, and paid a premium for it.

But I definitely recommend SCOL all the way. They helped a ton, sourcing, random bits and pieces of additional parts that were missing when I bought mine as well. They were able to knock out the supercharger rebuild faster than usual, due to it being my daily driver.

 

I would assume unless a bearing went bad, and caused the rotors to touch they should be ok. Or if something got in between them.

 

I wont know anything until I take it apart so its merely speculation at this point. Could be 100% mint, or fubar

 

I have an Excel spreadsheet that lists out all the additional bits and pieces needed for installation I can send you.
Basically, I went through the magnuson installation instructions and physically touched every bolt or bracket they referred to that wasn’t an OEM piece on the truck

 

I actually found the oem 60 page packet from toyota today with EVERYTHING needed for install. If I have any questions you will be first to know.

 

I work across the street from a yota dealer. I need to ask them if they are still able to perform TRD flash on my ecu.

 

shows the blowers hold value like our trucks. good in some respects.

 

you should be fine.

 

I would hit up JustDSM one of our forum member here. He does TRD flash and it was quick. Just have to take off your ecu and ship it to him or you can order one from him and he can flash it and ship it to you. That's what I did when I installed my supercharger.

 

Or, you can buy an HPT MPVI3 and flash it yourself with a tune @JustDSM sends you via email. Or, if someone here with an HPT device in your area is willing, you can buy the Credits to flash your ECU with a tune @JustDSM sends you via email with their device. The point is, you have a number of options available.

If you're running a M/T, make sure you ask for revhang delete. If you're running and A/T, make sure you include @nd4spdbh's transmission tune.

There is a coating on the rotors that can be compromised. I believe it can be from excessive meth spray. But I don't have experience with that.

 

Same thing happened to my teeth, ill look out for that.

 

Also does anyone have the snout cutter for the 2.8 pulley they whore out like the ecgs bushing tool?

 

Which pulley? I'm running the URD quick change with a 2.8 and didn't have to cut the snout.

 

Oh nice, I assume the quick change pulley holder just presses on like normal? Then you can swap pulleys on the fly?

Is the snout cut only needed for stealth pulley?

Not sure if the stealth 2.8 needs it but I believe it would be needed if I went smaller than a 2.8 on the quick change.
