Locker diff clunk differential

So after chasing a clunk that I’m having when I put my foot on the gas and then letting my foot off and 3 different shops inspecting it the 4x4 transmission shop specialist says it’s definitely from to much back lash from the rear locker diff.

is it ok to keep driving it?

the shop said just to keep driving it.

How expensive is it to get a new ring gear set installed?

 

You’ll likely need a new set of gears, at minimum. Depending on the age, I’d get new bearings and install kit.
Install labor will cost you $500-1000.

 

Are the splines in the driveshaft in good shape?

 

Without taking the axle apart not sure

 

With the truck in netrual you can twist the front section of the driveshaft to check for play.

 

Yes, no back lash,
I took it to a 4x4 specialist and they said it's the 3rd member gears,
I'm going to chase down a low mileage 3rd member and call it a day

 

Ended up being the ring and pinion backlash on the locker diff.
Got a low mileage 3rd member and everything is good again.
Some paint and cleaning and she looks g8
