I forgot you were coming over to the west side for your birthday. If you have time for a break, I'd love to see you. There are a couple of things I'd like to talk with you about. LMK

yeah the weather page I follow just issued an official El Niño warning for us for early fall through Spring of next year :bananadance: says its shaping up to be comparable to the one from 1997/98, which as I remember was even wetter than this last winter we had.

oh damn, well I'm not terribly surprised. Not really sure why they were even considering it, I mean he's a legend and still plays hard in the Czech league but the NHL is a different beast.

Everything I have been reading is saying could be stronger than the 97/98 winter. That was a good winter I just turned 21 and spent a lot of time in Big Bear snowboarding.

I was 12 and just getting into hockey, was playing every weekend at the local outdoor YMCA roller rink. I remember virtually every game being cancelled because the rink was flooded almost every weekend

    Holy Hannah that's awesome!

I've been contemplating seeing if I can fab up a roller that'll handle 10ga. Then I could weld up my own hydraulic tank... prices have skyrocketed on those, the plastic ones we buy (about 13" tall, 9" diameter, 1 baffle and sensor) just went up to $600

I would think you would have some noises from the bottom end of things were really damaged. A chance of extra wear but if it's running fine I think a top end rebuild would get you where you need to go. Long block is a complete new engine no?
Happy birthday Zane. Did you get yourself a present, aka a pup?

Man, what a fucking shitshow it was earlier god damn.

Whenever I cut something for money, I start off with a new tip and electrode to ensure no loss of steel.

I wasted this entire mother fucker -

    20230811_101802.jpg

Not a huge loss, approximately $8 in steel based on square footage but that lead to a whole slew of trouble shooting cause of this shit -

    20230811_101836.jpg

    Inconsistent jaggedness everywhere -

    20230811_101826.jpg

There are a variety of possible scenarios that would cause this to happen, but many things I do are preventative meaning I did not have the 'typical' issues leading to this sort of cutting IE swirl ring was in the correct orientation, no moisture in my air as I had just changed my beads (still blue and dry), inspection of both electrode and tip have no indication of moisture
(swirl marks not present), couplers on my X and Y axis were tight, jogging fully before cutting (as I always do this before a zero) confirmed no binding whatsoever, and my torch mount is solid and does not move at all when forced.

I went through and cut 12 test squares making one change in variable for each and every square, and the issue followed.

What finally gave me "minimal" jaggedness was having replaced the shield cup. The old shield cup's air holes still had day light coming through and had no gunk in it so I'm not sure why that gave me noticeable difference but that's only when combined with the larger 1.1mm tip. When I run the 0.8mm tip I still have jaggedness (just slightly less).

All that's left to do is to fucking send it -

    20230811_120923.jpg

I have so little jaggedness, and it's only present in the smallest areas looking at it from an angle otherwise not visible when looking straightforward

    20230811_121134.jpg

Here you can see all the samples I cut out troubleshooting shit -

    20230811_123558.jpg

Yeah @treyus30 these things practically print money, and although it's been trouble-free for 8 months when something is an issue, it's hard AF to diagnose.

Definitely time for a beer :burp:

Victorious in the end though; all the 1/4" brackets cut out perfect

That was the last small piece; the jaggedness occurred again meaning the issue isn't fully rectified but could point to something else if it only happened at the end of cutting these brackets.

Zoom in on the large piece, that was the 8th piece cut, the one you zoomed in on is the 7th.

That difference is smaller than 1/64" so yes it's perfect cause a bolt runs through it flanked by DOM and a poly bushing for a tire swingout :luvya:

Looks good to me, when I was a welders hand or whatever I spent way too much time drilling out bad holes from the poor table calibration lol
