Has anyone come up with a way to have the headlights come on when you turn the wipers on? Both states that I drive in have a lights on when wipers are on law. I wish they would come on when you have the headlight switch in auto.

The downside to that feature would be that your headlights would turn on every time you activate the wipers. Including the windsheild washer, and the wipe settings. When you may not want the headlights to be on.

It's not a bad feature to have, but I wouldn't want it for those reasons.

We have this law in Florida, and it's actually pretty useful safety/visibility wise. Signs posted on the interstate so the snow birds are aware too.

Of course the law was aimed at rain / heavy fog situations, not when clearing bugs, dirt, morning dew, etc.

I'd not want my headlights flicking on and off every time I gave the wipers a manual swipe for something, even driving in mist. Some folks don't even have intermittent wipers. :D

All the vehicles I’ve owned that have this feature only turn on the lights after about 30 seconds of having the wipers on. The was feature or a quick bump to wipe the window has no effect.

I've only encountered this feature onnan International truck and the lights come on with any movement of the wiperstalk. I nave no idea if it came from International like that or if it was installed later, presumably it's a OEM feature.

Adding timers or software, even when it's auto wippers and raining/speed sensing systems, is an over complication of the vehicle system. The end result might be nice, I can't recall any added benefit to speed sensing wipers on any vehicle I've driven with that feature. The simple wipper switch is all I need for driving during inclement weather.

Driving in high humidity with the AC on requires a lot of wiping. Which is probably common in Florida, most mornings here require driving with the wipers on or a wipe every few seconds because of the humidity.

Missouri is also a state that requires headlights on when wipers are used. I have had several vehicles with this option Hell even had Fiat's (don't laugh:rolleyes:) that had this option. Most of them the wipers had to cycle a certain amount of times before the lights came on.

Yeah, but isn't the entire control modual for the wipers on the Tacoma in the wiper stalk?

I wouldn't want the lights or wipers to stop working because the other stopped working.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
While I understand the convenience of this kind of feature, it's just another substitute for using your grey matter for a conscious common sense action (in other words, we have to protect the stupid).

Well, since the truck has auto headlights, I don't think this would be any different.

@caribe makaira and I discussed this quite a bit sometime ago. It’s possible, but I couldn’t find one of the connectors to make a tee for it. If someone wanted to use some taps, I could still build something. I’m not sure where and what wires to tap, but I’m sure Caribe could remind me

You have to turn on the wipers. What is hard about turning on the headlights at the same time?

I like the auto-headlight function. It is useful to me. To enhance the operation of that function to include wiper sensitivity as well as light/dark sensitivity would also be useful to me.

In the day time it'd make a lot more sense to have the DRL's come on automatically with the wipers and it would be safer and more visible as well.
