I'll admit this is more of a first world problem type of nit pick but anyone else here find that the delay in the HVAC fan to actually spin up to max speed annoying? This is with the auto climate control.

This is my first summer with the truck and I never noticed it until we've been having triple temp digits for the past month. Get in the truck, start it up and it's about 10 seconds before the fan climbs up to max speed.

Ten seconds feels a bit longer when it's probably 130 degrees inside the cab. I've finally trained myself to leave the door open and sit for a moment before the fan actually kicks on. Anyways, is this a Tacoma thing or do all Toyotas do this?

Up on the other side of the country, heaters don't heat the best when it's -30 outside.
Can't imagine A/C perfoming well in triple digits.??

Mine is similar. I believe it has to do with the computer figuring out what it needs to adjust and then actually adjusting it before activating the fan. Theoretically the settings are left as you had them, but it would still need to make sure that is the case. Plus, the refrigerant needs to start flowing too.

It is even more dramatic in the winter or cold weather when "auto" mode will wait a while until some heat has built up in the engine before turning on the fan. You can bypass this without using the automatic setting, but you'll still be getting cold air anyway.

I put my windows down right away, and drive off letting the heat escape.

    My 14 RAV is same.

Just hit the fan button which will override the auto stuff.

I think it’s cooling/heating up system, ducts, etc, before making you more uncomfortable by blasting more of what you don’t want. Every vehicle w auto climate I’ve had, has done this.

hmmm, i don't have the auto climate control and i also turn my AC off before i shut the truck off, that being said, when i start my truck i let it idle for 10-15 seconds or so then i turn the AC on, i dont have issues with the fan ramping up, the air doesn't start to get really cool until i get moving but that's normal. I'm also in Phx.
I'm guessing your issue is related to the auto climate control you mentioned??

Normal, and not an issue for me. I leave my system on auto all the time.

    Good info, thanks!

The heater taking minutes before the blower kicks on makes sense since the heater core takes a while for things to warm up. Interesting about the AC.

To be fair, I did assume @Chew's answer was the correct one until I went digging. Honestly, what he said makes more sense to me than odor control.

I got Carista for a week to disable the seatbelt chime on my wife's new Lexus this past fall. Hooked it up to the Tacoma to see if there were any settings I was interested in and found one for the fan delay so I changed it. Didn't notice a significant change since we haven't had warm weather until this week.

Finally, hop in a hot truck and it no longer takes 10 seconds for the fan to reach max speed.

I have had four vehicles with automatic climate control and all of them gradually brought the fan up to speed. If it was really hot (windows closed all day) in "auto" they would start in recirc mode unless you over-rode it, and bring the fan up to full speed fairly quickly. Cold out/winter: slower gradual increase as the engine temp came up, or full-blast almost immediately if defrost/de-ice was selected.
