can anybody pull up whether it is illegal to drive with your tailgate down in nc, officers in my area are cracking down on some rediculouse things (i have to replace the bumper on my tow rig because a dent covers the NO in North Carolina.) but i had a friend get pulled over for having his tailgate down. all my cop friends have said there isnt a law against it. however he recieved a warning ticket for it...but the cop that pulled him over is the same that pulled me for running a yellow light and writing a warning, mind you not running a yellow light that turned red, but running a green light that turned yellow :der:

Too bad they don't make money of he writes warnings. Just a waste of paper to me. Seems a little wierd to me that they would have police wasting their time on meaning less things like a tailgate.

No, it is not against the law to drive around with your tail gate down.

If it was, I'd be returning my bed extender.

    But it's not.

That's what I'm thinking. If it's illegal how do you use a bed extender?

The only thing i can see from his point of view is **IF** you had something in the bed that could fall out and cause damage to a car behind you. If not.. F*ck him!

Why not just put your tailgate up? In all seriousness, is it really that much trouble to flip it up?

what about this, if a small car rear-ends you and your tail gate is down, if the car goes under the truck a little the tailgate could possible go through their windshield and possible hurt them

thats the only way i can think of as to why that could be a law, (if it is, which i doubt)

I usually don't have it down.key word being usually Usually. My friend hauls wire that you use on telephone lines and it was an inch or two to the point he couldn't leave his tailgate down, however propery secured.

If a small car rear-ends me, even with my tailgate up, they're dead.

    NC doesn't have tailgate laws.

THats a good theory, but the tail gate doens come down and lock. Its easilly lifted, and odds are, the windshield of the car would push the tail gate up...
