You got that right, they cost alot more than the truck.

 

and they somehow seem to get more expensive with time!

 

I don't know if the 5 speeds have this on them, but from what I understand is it acts like a pressure regulator in a way. Its supposed to help how the clutch responds in a way. It basically creates a lag in the clutch. I mostly noticed it on taking off from a light. The clutch reacted smoother than it did before.
That's really the best way I can describe/explain it.

 

I'm curious...what is the FJ floor liner mod?

 

HD leafs and 3rd gen coils.

 

You are replacing the stock floor liner (carpet) with a more robust and easier to clean Rubber/vynil floor liner from Toyota.

I got sick of the wimpy thin brake rotors on my 2015 2WD AC TRD Sport.

I replaced with new rotors and calipers (Toyota) that I ordered for a same model year 4Runner. Big difference in beef on the rotor, the calipers are wider of course, and it uses the same brake pads (Toyota).

My rotors don't warp now because of my driving style - which is impatient.

 

Short throw shifter in my truck for sure. Went from shifting a dump truck and virtually reaching for the glovebox for 5th, to a reasonable shift range. Still a bit long for racing, but it's much more manageable.

So, a 2015 4Runner had bigger brakes? Did you need bigger wheels?

I'm planning to go to 17" wheels and going bigger brakes. Saw a couple different posts about a Big Brake Kit.

 

Depends on the big brake kit you're running and the offset of your wheels. I think usually it's recommended to be running 18's

 

That's good to know. Maybe then something like getting a 4Runner setup would be better for a brake improvement.

 

My 2015 Tacoma AC 2WD TRD Sport came with 17 inch wheels with 6 lugs. So I did not need bigger wheels.
My 4Runner is a 2019 TRD Off Road Premium. It came with 17 inch wheels with 6 lugs. In fact, when I upgraded to aftermarket wheels and tires on the 4Runner, the wheels and tires that I pulled off the 4Runner are now on my Tacoma.
The 4Runner rotor is thicker than the original Tacoma rotor. The diameter is the same. The thicker rotor demands a wider caliper.
I did look at the big brake kit, and to my recollection the big brake kit was around $2200. As I said, the 4Runner rotors and calipers cost $1400.

The TRD Tacomas have 6 lugs. Not all Tacoma models do.

 

@CrazyCrewChief That's a nice little savings and if I don't need 18" wheels that's good too. Mine is a TRD Off-road, so I have 6 lugs.

 

Adding heated mirrors is the most useful mod I’ve done on my Taco. Most of the other mods I’ve done to the truck have been electrical related (glove box light, 120Vac outlet in cab, bed lights, fog lights anytime, door chime delete when key is in ignition) but the heated mirrors have been functionally and safety-wise the most useful.
