Mixing Oil Grades

I’ve got 6 qts of 5W-30 that I have been trying to sell and keep getting stood up . So I’m thinking of mixing in 1 qt with my

$60 0W-20 oil Toyota/ exxon mobil Case of 6 Quarts Full Synthetic TGMO SN 0W-20 Oil

0W-20 oil changes. Same brand synthetic. Any harm in doing this? Owner’s manual states if a different grade is used in an emergency that it should be replaced asap but that’s not the same as 1+5.

 

I dont have awnser.....but oil is cheap. Would you really want to risk your engine to save a couple bucks?

Because I hate dumping perfectly good oil down the drain so to speak.

 

Just do it. It won't hurt a thing. OMG, people get so hung up on oil weights. Anyone who says an out of spec change is going to kill your engine, needs some education. By the time you do your next change you'll be fine. Do the next one to spec. No big deal!

 

No. I’ve got 6qts. That means 6 oil changes.

 

Just went the the manufacturer website and they do not recommend mixing oil grades. Probably CYO. F.

 

6 quarts is one change. Use 'em. Don't be paranoid. You wont damage anything.

 

The difference between a 0W and 5W is -35 vs -30 degrees C cranking SAE. Not enough for me to worry.

 

6 qts of 5W-30. So 1 qt of 5W-30 + 5 qts of 0W-20 done 6 times.

 

For 6 quarts of oil your worried or is it

Even that is $55. Are you risking say $8000. Engine for $55. You’re kidding me

 

Seems like an unnecessary risk in an effort to not waste $50, depending on what you bought.

 

you can use 5w30 in your small engine equipment. lawnmower, pressure washer etc.

 

No, just use them all up at once on one change. You will have NO issues!
My wife's Solara's manual calls for the same oil, but states you can use 10/30 every other change.
The only reason Toyota calls for 0/20, is for mileage to meet EPA regulations.
I've been working on engines all my life. I wouldn't run that weight for the life of the motor but oil weight isn't that big a deal on one change.
You can do what you want.

 

Some of you are missing the point. I’m just trying to avoid dumping 6 qts of new oil into the recycling tank. Money does not figure into the equation.

Thank you sir for a pragmatic comment. I thought of this as well. Unfortunately I’ve got a bunch of small engine specific oil my inventory.

 

If it bothers you, go to a Jiffy Lube and give the oil to them. Just give it. It won't be wasted down the drain.
Or just do what you want. It's your truck.

 

well, some guys like to use it to lube their AR-15 bolt carriers. Just throwing that out there also.

 

Because if I decide not to mix it with another grade that’s where it’s going.

 

when i changed vehicles i couldnt get rid of specific oils for my Xterra so i just drove through a neighborhood and found a house with the same model xterra and put the box of oils at their door as a donation.
