In June I went to Moab. Plan was to ride with a friend who had a tricked out 3rd Gen Taco to see what rock crawling is all about.

I had designs to make a rock overlanding/wheeling taco from a first gen. However the week before we left I noticed a 3rd gen all ready set up with more mods than I could imagine on fb market.

We stopped in CO on the way and picked my new rig! I ended up doing a fair amount of rock crawling first two days of ownership! I opted out of more advanced trails. I did not attempt to wheel mine to Top of the World for example!

There is still room for improvement and learning opportunities even though I didn’t build it myself.

That’s a beautiful rig you bought, congrats! What a great place for a first trip.

I know you have only had the truck for a few days but how do you like those Wildpeaks so far? And What size are they?

Now it is your duty to tell everyone that Moab sucks. Spread it far and wide.

Thanks! I don’t mind. $40K. I had to snatch it! Came with extra parts and accessories that are not currently on it. Love it!

LOL! I will probably will avoid it and stick to CO. and other places for a while. I would go back to Moab someday where I camped though. It was an amazingly beautiful area!

Looks good! TOTW is doable on 33's or even 32's, but I'd suggest you get a burlier skid to include a mid skid before attempting that trail. Ledges and the breakover angle on smaller tires will mean contacting often, it's beyond the protection abilities of the TRD skid IMO.

Nice! How was finding camping? I found it difficult to find places to camp in Moab during my trips. Everything was already taken and overcrowded. Maybe I just didn't get deep enough into some of the more legit off-road trails though or maybe there were a lot more people than normal because it wasn't 110° out.

You could have easily done TOTW with that truck and the mods you have. I managed it on stock suspension with 125K miles on it(did have full skids and sliders) thanks to great spotters. I want to go back again someday.

TOTW gets harder every year. I completed it several months ago with my DCLB on 33s. Skids are a must, not an option. Steel, not aluminum. You'll be throwing those aluminum ones in the recycling after you get home.

I had to beat my trans skid back flat. I went up this spring right after Easter Jeep and the trail was harder than it was 5 years ago.

Oh I hit the skid! I did not drive TOTW. Left mine behind and let my friend destroy his metal skids which he had a plethora of expensive skids he destroyed. No thanks! Not interested in doing that. I have a few scrapes on my TRD plate, but I'm impressed with it because I hit down with it several times pretty damn hard. I'll keep it till I demolish it.

My friend's steel front skid is toast after TOTW, and we had plenty of good spotters. I think it was experience more than how strong his skids were. But I would recommend more clearance and steel if you have the money.
