Had a 4 in our Trooper, didn’t seem all that bad, that vehicle felt like it had more get and go than my 1st Gen, both V6s.

Was your father’s a 4 cylinder? If it was, that was not a good combination.

Kinda amazed someone would go out their way to buy a gold colored vehicle…was your dad always old? :D

I could go for a 2dr Bronco in gold. I thought the Wranglers look good in that color.

I guess we're hoping that none of the G3 Tundy issues carry over to the G4 Taco.

Even with the 5 speed manual the 3.4 is kind of a dog, got me where I needed to go though. My 3rd Gen blows the doors off it. Pull the same load, don’t even know it’s back there.

And the 3.5 is some what of a dog . Toyota should have moved to an 8 speed in 2016. Huge miss for them

They should have put the 4.7 V8 in back in 2005 and kept it. With a 5 speed auto and manual options. Chasing mpg numbers is what gets them into trouble. Of course these trucks never really achieved all that great mileage, even back in the 20/22R days.

Diesel would cured most of the woes, but don’t think it is fast enough for North America highways.

Thank you, long time Toyota/Ivan fan.

Not quite sure why everyone keeps bashing the 3.5 on the current taco. That engine its fine is just the damn transmission programming that is horrible for the engine. If you think the 2.4T (non hybrid) is going to be leaps and bounds better that 3.5 just look at the the review on the Highlander with the 3.5 vs the 2.4T , yes it might "feel" quicker of the line" but in the upper revs will die off really fast. There is definitely not a replacement for displacement.

I am quite fine with the 3.5, and even trans, it’s the cruise control is what makes it hunt for gears. Turn that off, hardly any hunting, which is kind of a bummer, use the CC to keep me from speeding. Not much in a hurry these days, seems like the guys who want to blast 90 mph down the interstate are the ones who like to complain.

That said, moving the peak torque curve lower in the RPM range should be great for us guys who like to drive slow and don’t like to rev over 2 grand.

Speaking of no replacement for displacement. Given that Toyota loves to drag their feet on improvements, none of the complaining would have ever happen if they had the V8 as an option way back in 2005, they could of dragged that out for a long time.
