Look at what is hinding under this finish. Sanding swirls. Was not prepped correclty for the finish to hold. This is a good thing because I want to refninish this guitar and the poly on it now is just coming right off with a plastic razor. Not sure what scheme I'm going to do on this. It's technically a vintage Gibson and some would want to preserve the burst on it and all the orginal work, but this would probably look pretty good with my some other burst on it. The frets came out prefectly too. Almost no chips at all. This is my first time doing a complete refret. I've leveled and crowned frets a few time now, but nothing like this. It's a skill I've wanted to learn for awhile.

I don’t play, but just love the old Gibson Guitars and the history in Kalamazoo. Worked for Heritage Guitars for a few years before retiring. It’s a pretty cool process building guitars.

Nice, I literally was just in kzoo visiting my cousins there. Didn't even occur to me about the history there with guitars. Next time I go out there I'm gonna check out Heritage.

Yes, all Harmony Guitars that say, Made in the USA, are made in Kalamazoo. From what I understand they are a pretty good value. Not being a guitar player, I don’t have any firsthand knowledge, just know that they have the same QC standards as the Heritages as far as fit and finish and quality of the wood.
Both brands are made side by side.

Never realized Kalamazoo was such a mecca for guitars.

If you find yourself in eastern PA up around Bethlehem, make it a point to stop in at Martin; that was a wonderful bit of acoustic luthier heaven to visit.

I got all that nasty polyurethane off with the exception of the face of the headstock. Not a fan of how poly feels when you play it's really heavy and sticky. On an accoustic / hollybody it absorbs a lot of the vibrations. Now when you tap the side of it you can hear the sound of it again. Before it was just a plunk. Thing is so much lighter now too. Must have taken a pound of that stuff off it.

    IMG_20230816_103454.jpg

The original owner sprayed right over this and the paint. The poly and paint have almost come as one. I stripped the back and sides, but I am thinking of leaving this. I'll polish it and clean it up, but if I remove it the logo is probably toast and I really don't want to have to order the stencil and go through the entire process of getting the logo perfect. Plus you can see the original checkering. IDK, it's kinda neat to see it under there and it's protected really good.

Working on patching up holes and knicks before I sand it all down. Still have not decided on the scheme. Leaning towards a tobacco burst with some oxblood red.

That surprises me considering how small they are and how they use that to sell their guitars at a premium. Unfortunate, they are treating you that way.

Airstep Katana footswitch and the Katana Librarian app are a must for those amps, imo. Placing a boosted eq after the amp section, gets it to mimic more of that power amp goodness.
