Agreed, except for the direct injection only other than that, that VQ engine is very sweet!

@SwollenGoat --- I agree whole heartedly agree. I wish Toyota was more al a carte like the other makers, but their business model is too structured. Ford has the most flexibility, that's just smart. It's almost confusing at times. In some ways the SR ain't a bad package. But it ain't like the extra value packages of yesterday. Everything is expensive, but Toyota is pushing their rigs in a price range that is pushing brand loyalty. Toyota's humbleness of the 90s is not there anymore (is any manufacturer?), but the market demands more cozy less worky (I like both personally LOL). I guess my generation is just different. (Gen Z here)

A modern day Hilux/Pickup 1-Ton, or even a T100 1-ton, black argent bumpers and full vinyl interior would be lovely. I do like power windows though. Even if it was fully BEV, I'd love to buy one----I've heard rumors that GM and Nissan (not together as far as I know) are thinking about making a fully battery-electric small pickup.

@Turd Ferguson --- With the direction Toyota is taking (as well as GM & Ford) Nissan may have a cash cow on their hands. The Frontier, in my opinion, has always been the best second best choice. I know they've had their bad points, but who hasn't? Many (not all) in the Toyota community at large shits on the Frontier, and I'm thinking that some of us will be eating humble pie. I'm hoping for the best with the 4th gen, but like with everything else, there will be growing pains. Nissan was smart to keep the same platform and modify as needed. The 3.8 V6 is based on the Pathfinder 3.5 V6 which has been around since Y2K. I'll also bet the 3.0 TT from the Z will be the frontier in a couple years as an option. With the Titan sadly gone, Nissan will put more money into EVs, but I think the Frontier will get some love too. I'm not too worried about the GM twins nor the Ranger. The Frontier is about to make its own music. Annnd I'm all for it.

I understand the need to reduce costs, but I'm not too sure Toyota's plans are the most......efficent. The parts commonality between all trucks/SUVs saves Toyota money, but also is a blatant compromise for every vehicle.

I’ve been seeing a lot more Frontiers on the road lately. The Pro4X is a nice truck. There will probably be a massive price difference between the Pro4X and the 4th gen TRDpro too. What do you really get for all that extra cash? Suspension seats?

Put a Toyota badge on it and you will love it. Better yet a LandCruiser badge and you’ll worship it.

Not sure I “worship” anything, that seems like something you’re making up about me. But I’m not going to buy a Nissan.

It seems pretty silly to be so biased about a vehicle manufacturer.

Nissans are not a top tier auto maker . Not sure if you're drunk or have shares but they are not as good as you're making them out to be. Let's take the titan for example, couldn't even do that one right even though they had Cummins

I hope you’re right. Tacoma engineers probably cringe every time they hear the word Highlander these days. No doubt they’re eager to get that reference off their back.

One (indirect) advantage the 2.4T will have this fall is that regardless of how the actual engine performs, if the 8spd tranny simply just doesn’t hunt as much, a lot of people will declare the overall powertrain to be a big advancement vs Gen3.

What are the criteria for becoming a top tier auto maker other than having a T on the grille?

You've never talked with "Buy American!" crowd, have ya? Ain't nobody more loyal than them folks. Heard that quite a lot when I was younger. Soured me pretty good on the Big 3.

I'm sure the Raptor, ZR2, and TRX bros (and bro-ettes) are just as obnoxious. Good and bad in all camps sadly.
