One of my cousins bought a new RR in 68. The horn sounded like the cartoon character. Beep Beep. I rode with him once. He buried the speedometer at like 120. That was all that I needed.

What an asshole. There's plenty of people out there that would love to have a chance at preserving that old car. All that is going to happen is it will continue to rot until it goes to the scrapper or when he dies whoever controls his estate will set it free. At least if he sold it he could control who it goes to. There's lots of boomers that are holding cool old cars they can't/won't maintain and it's frustrating.

What trim of the 3rd gen 4runner has the same hvac knobs as the Tacoma?

They're the same regardless of trim, it's just the year difference that gave you the electronic climate control or the manual which gave you different dials.

I think the manual slider controls were only for the first couple years in each? 1996 through 1997 (or 1995.5 in the Tacoma's case), though the later 97s might have the knobs instead.

I'm kind of a fan now of the manual sliders, wasn't at first but I dig the feeling/sound of the vents shifting manually with the sliders vs electronically in my Tacoma's case.

Pretty sure the blend door actuator or whatever it is on the Tacoma is not long for this world, can hear it buzzing at times

Yep, just like they did away with the rear locker is around the time they did away with all manual controls.

My 1998 had manual controls (the knob, not the earlier slider variant) and to digital was in 2001.

Yeah, he doesn't know what he's saying.

He has a 2001, they went digital if you scroll up.

1998 is exactly what I had; it was a Limited but again even a basic SR5 will have the same knobs

I just swapped out the wood grain interior, but black or wood grain they still used the same black knobs as the +2001 Tacoma.

I’m pretty sure I had them in my 98 single cab. Toyota might’ve kept them for the base models through 2000.

@Kwikvette @m3bassman i haven’t noticed any oil loss in the 1,100 miles since I switched to Valvoline Max Life 10w-30. I don’t wanna speak too soon, but maybe it was just cause the oil I had in there was really old and degraded.
