I really like my 2gen taco. It's been great all this years. I'm about to have a second boy and now I'm looking for something a bit larger. More comfortable for me, the wife and the kids in the back. If the Taco a few more inches in the back I would consider it. I don't want the Tacoma to be bigger, I just want more space in the back seats without making the truck bigger. As it is now, I'm looking at the Tundra. I load a 4 wheeler in the back. Tow a smaller boat, make several trips to the landfill with yard junk

Ford makes Transits, Mercedes does the Sprinter.

All depends, you can certainly wheel full-size trucks, even the smallest 4WD truck will eventually won’t be able to fit down the trail. Can’t take my 1st Gen Taco down single track for instance…

Not sure why you need passenger space if you don’t have a family, plan on picking up a lot of hitch hikers???

You’re a confusing dude. Tacoma is too small, full-size too big. But an RV is ok??? What kind of RV was it again? Class A, B, C?

You wouldn’t happen to smoke a lot of pot would ya?

Maverick is also a Uni-Body, no frame to take up floor space. The seat pan is made deeper, plus the bed is a foot shorter, so it can have a longer cabin.

You've clearly never been on any trails. Toyota is really going after people who go on trails or people who want to look like they do.

You might not be aware but Toyota has a Tundra which is meant to compete with the F150. Mayne you shoukd check out the Tundra.

New Tundra is ugly. Old Tundra was not but look very soft. I never liked any iteration of the Tundra. Tacoma starting with Gen 3 and all iteration of the 4runners and most iteration of the Landcruiser.

Tundra doesn't really compete with the F-150, it's still noticeably smaller.

Thank you so much for informing me that the Tundra does not compete with the F150.

It does compete, it just not the same size. It's like comparing a Tundra TRD Pro to a Ford F-150 Raptor. Remember one thing, Gen 2 Tundra is bigger than Gen 3 Tundra. If anything, Tundra is getting smaller.

Gen 2 Tundra had seating for 6 and bigger rear leg room. Gen 3 only has seating for 5 and slightly smaller rear leg room.

    Tundra is narrower than F-150.

If the Tacoma is too small, and the F150 too big, and the Tundra is in between the two, process of elimination is…

Don't get me wrong, I'm always a fan of large truck for non off-road purposes. My dream truck was the previous generation Silverado Z71 in red. But the biggest reason I like large trucks are the fact you sit higher (like a Kinh) than any other vehicle on the road (other than commercial trucks). Not to mention, you be safer in an accident, and no one is having road rage against you.

But off-roading is a lifestyle, and a healthy one at that. Even the new Tacoma wheelbase does concern me. I feel like if you are going to have seating for 5, it should not have uncomfortable leg room. Not asking for SUV or large truck leg rooms, but at least decent size leg room for rear seat occupants. No way am I getting a 2 door Xtracab with no suicide doors.

I think it is best to have more than one vehicle. Right now, I can only afford one vehicle. If I had a family, 4runner or Landcruiser. Though LC doesn't come with manual so that no longer an option.

You should call Akio Toyoda and explain precisely what the dimensions of their trucks should be.

Think this a case of no matter what it is, the OP will never be happy. Do find it odd complaining about rear seat leg room when he doesn’t have people to haul.

Have hauled people in my access cab, they sure do look uncomfortable, but I don’t have to ride back there so why worry??? Don’t get asked for rides much…which I like. ;)

My guess is that you’re young and haven’t traveled much with people. Had plenty of trips go south because the passengers had melt downs. I am a fairly chill traveler when the proverbial shit hits the fan, and it will. Others not so much, and I don’t want to travel with them. They harsh on my mellow. :)

Years ago bought a 4Runner so I could car pool into school together with a friend or two. One day he took his truck, which was broken into, smashed driver’s side window and all the stereo equipment was stolen. The passenger door was unlocked. He blamed me for the theft, no matter how many times I said, why would they smash the glass if this side was unlocked? They probably unlocked it to pull your base speakers out. So we had a falling out. Used my 4Runner more as truck, hauled firewood, bags of concrete, even took the top off laid down a tarp and hauled a load of dirt. Thought to myself, I really need a truck more than a SUV, sold it and bought regular cab pickup.

So, after some falling outs. I am like “I’ll meet you there” some of guys get mad that I don’t want to split the gas bill, too bad. If they get mad over that, best not traveling with them at all.

If you’re wheeling better to have a couple vehicles anyways, to pull each other out.

I would only take them off-roading with me. I really don't want to solo off-roading if I can avoid it. Better safe than sorry. But I do plan and want to go off-roading with other vehicles. I hate being alone and I need more friends. But I live in the one state where it nearly impossible to make friends as an outsider (out of state).

After reading some of your posts I doubt that will be a concern.
