They have been out for the 2 years or so. I purchased my 285 toyo at3's in July of 2021...(the AT3 originally came out in May of 2020 but then there was a National backorder.) I absolutely love the tire, have about 25000 miles on mine, and still have a lot of meat on my 285s. I just need to go a little bit bigger but without the all the downfalls of a 35 knowing what is needed to put a 35 on a tacoma. It is still a daily driver.

Hey folks. I have the trd pro 4runner wheels. I’m looking to upgrade to falken 255/80/r17 tires. Anyone had any fitment issues with these or rub of any kind?

Look up the manufacturer specs for the specific tire you’re looking at. You’ll find an “approved rim width” range for each model and size.

I've been running that for years. Perfect size in my mind. Narrow, one size up from stock and doesn't tax the stock gearing.

I've got OME886 front, Dakar HD with airbags rear, front and rear steel bumpers, full steel skid and a winch.

Yes there are some 235/85/r16s, but there are basically no 33s (255/85/r16); your only choice with the 16s is the Coopers. With 255/80/R17, you have all the major popular brands and tires including the ATW3.

    235/85/R16 = ~31.5
    255/85/R16 = 33

He talking about the 34x10.5’s, I got my 255’s about a year ago and probably would’ve went with the 34’s if they were available then.

I also was talking about the 34x10.5's being out that long. The Toyo Open Country AT3 on general came out in Spring of 2020 and I had a discussion with discount tire direct about the sizes. The 34x10.5 was a size in the Toyo that was available, but since I was moving from a 265/70/17, I tried a 285 first. Then due to the national backorder on all Toyo's due to 2020, I went with BFG's (biggest mistake of my life) and they lasted 11 months before they got torn up off-road. I was finally able to go with the Toyo's and just made the transfer from BFG 285 to Toyo 285. The 34x10.5's Toyo's always caught my eye, even back then 2 years ago, because of the weight being the same as the 285's in the Toyo. Now don't get me wrong, I love my Toyo 285's right now. They still have a lot of meat still on them and they are monsters both on and off-road. I always plan ahead and do my research before upgrading to a bigger tire and even though I am about 2 years before I make the jump, I am just seeing what the stance and look of the 34x10.5 is. Not to mention that since I have a 9" wheel, that may play a factor in this as well since I go off-roading a lot. It does state however that it can be put on up to a 9.5" wheel though.

Thanks, and I did when I bought my current tires.
I was suggesting that stock Toyota 16" rims are 7" wide, IIRC, and will accept most manufacturers tires from 215 to 265, and are therefore a viable choice, unless you're looking for tall (32"+) tires, not skinny tires, which it seems a lot of people are looking for.
235/85/r16's are almost 32" for many tires, and have the advantage of being lighter than their 17" counterpart that is only .4" taller.
Of course, YMMV, and such. All good, carry on!

I get it. That being said, we've got a bit of mission creep that is making this more of a tall tire thread than a skinny tire thread. It's all relative, I suppose, and good learning regardless

You made me go back and check - the OP says this thread is for skinnies, mentions his 255/85/16s (33s), then also lists:

    upload_2023-8-14_13-49-31.png
    Which are all tall skinnies.

I think this thread is about pizza cutters, aka tall-and-skinnies. I guess we can also include skinny-but-OEM-diameter as skinnies, like the 245s the SR comes with?

Yeah I have always understood this thread to be about pizza cutters. I read through hours and hours of it trying to decide whether to get 255/85/16’s or 265/75/16’s and the majority of the discussion seemed to be about pizza cutters.

    You are correct! My bad!
Odd that 215/85/r16s aren't on the list; they're a real pizza cutter end up being a great skinny replacement for the 245/75/r16s that came stock on a lot of these trucks, and are usually within a 10th of an inch of the same size, and similar weight, but E load rated. .
One of the more underappreciated sizes I think.
The look reminds me of the first Toyota 4x4 pickups with skinny 15s and chrome hubcaps.

I don't have the m/ts but the Open Country AT3'S have been amazing on my rig for the past 2 years both on and off road.

I’m starting the new-tires process now, probably purchase this fall. I’ve had the same size ST Maxx for 57k miles but do run a 5 tire rotation. They have been good but I’d love to find another option, ideally lighter than the ST Maxx.

TRD: Lift, Exhaust, Air Intake, Skid Plate & "Beadlock" wheels. Batman sticker. 255/85R16 Toyo MTs. Debadged. H9s.

I have a set of the Toyo M/Ts size 255/85/16 on TRD "fake beadlock" rims with a +10 mm offset. Also have the TRD OEM lift kit (aka: "the shocker")

Lots of off-road adventures in 4LO in BC since they were installed in first week of May.
No rubbing that I've heard or seen signs of.
Have the OEM mud flaps still in place. 2022 OR Access Cab.

Dealer in Nelson, BC, supplied and installed the tires (and the lift kit when purchased new last September for that matter) and I think they did a great job on getting the alignment/caster, etc., "just so."
