at the dunes you can buy different additives to make it smell however you want. Bubblegum and root beer for examples.

Do you drop a pan and wash engine out with kerosene at every oil change? Do you drain hot or cold oil? I bet there is at least a quart of oil is left behind after you drain cold oil.

Do you switch brands or stick to the same (won't additive packs clash??? oh, horror)? Go back and forth between dino and syn?
Go from Group III "synthetic" to "real" synthetic, PAO (Grp IV) or PAG and ester (Grp V) oil? I bet my lunch that there is more difference in Redline being used in engine after Quaker State synthetic than 5 qrts of 0w-20 QS syn and a quart of 5w-30 Valvoline synthetic being dumped into the engine.

It is just oil. Y'all overthinking it.

Subject 'Can Amsoil lubricants be safely mixed together?'
"Mixing AMSOIL synthetic lubricants is not only unnecessary, it may lead to reduced performance and even equipment failure."

"To minimize the risk of performance- and warranty-related issues due to improper mixing, AMSOIL does not recommend mixing AMSOIL synthetic lubricants."

Subject 'Can Amsoil motor oils be mixed with other brands?'
"Yes. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing other oils with AMSOIL motor oils, however, will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Mixing other oils with AMSOIL motor oils will also void the AMSOIL limited warranty."

They’re talking about mixing different product lines, not different viscosities within the same product line:

Automatic transmission fluids offer a perfect example. Some transmissions require lubricants that contain specific frictional characteristics to reduce, or eliminate, clutch slippage, while other transmissions may require different frictional requirements. Mixing fluids recommended for different performance specifications may lead to a host of problems, including erratic shifting and transmission failure.

In some applications, mixing lubricants may not lead to equipment failure, but it will reduce performance. For example, if AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is installed in a vehicle, and its owner adds AMSOIL OE Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil to top off the engine if Signature Series isn’t available, the vehicle will continue to operate perfectly; Signature Series and OE Synthetic Motor Oil share a similar chemistry, and formulations of the same viscosity can be safely mixed. However, mixing lubricants will shorten Signature Series' life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

It says nothing about, eg, mixing SS 0w20 with SS 5w30. If you read the posted links, it’ll show this is totally ok.

Bottom line any oil is better than no oil. Any viscosity grade that is even remotely close to what is recommended will work just fine.
Tip top fuel mileage will be achieved by a almost immeasurable amount with 0w20, 5w20 is next, 5w30 is next, after that yes it will work, no matter what anyone says or believes it will work and work well.

I love that zero weight oils pump to the bearing surfaces in freezing cold weather a tiny bit faster, I like that they are all synthetic oils.

Does my personal opinion matter to a engine? Nope.

The odds are much more likely that the engine will be destroyed in a motor vehicle collision, than to experience a noticeable difference in engine life due to a slight difference in oil viscosity.

These engines are not special. They are mass produced. Seriously, this is not a hand made V-12. Its just a low tech V-6 without even twin turbos to worry with.

Relax. Its just a simple non high performance motor. Our trucks are special to us, but they are not exotic supercars.

I mix oil all the time, have for years. A little bit diluted into a lot of bit ain't gonna hurt anything.

I read the entire FAQ and the posted links. They are ambiguous at best. I’ve sold the oil in question and I’ve got enough 0W20 for the next few oil changes so it’s a dead subject for all practical purposes.

I wish I was closer, I would have given you $30 for it, not $25. :D
I've run Motul PAO oils in my van before. And FAR G-Oil recycled beef fat oil in my Gen 2 Taco and van. Amsoil would have been nice.

For you, maybe. But I’m interested in answering this question without opinion or conjecture. It’s the only way bullshit can be defeated.

I have a query out to Amsoil for this. I’ll post what they say.

That stuff works great when mixed with acetone for freezing rusted fasteners.

That's good to know. I know MMO is was popular when Saturn was around, to free stuck piston rings, but I never mixed it with acetone.
I use it as an UCL.

^This. The Ea filter retails for over $20. I'm a preferred customer so it saves me quite a bit. Unless I don't use it. The guy got an $65 dollar oil change kit for $25.
