Get a better mechanic. If he told you that the thermostat reads the temperature out on your dash, well, he’s no mechanic.

Can’t you get it towed home and get someone more capable to investigate before letting possibly this same clown try to swap your engine?

Done by me: decals, plastidip, and vinyl. More to come. Not done by me: Icon front/rear suspension; Total Chaos UCA’s; Method wheels/34” Falken tires; Prinsu cab rack/LED light bar; V1Air compressor piped to a 2.5 gallon underbed tank; Pelfreybilt front/rear bumpers; Smittybilt front winch.
This is about a week ago, but finally got the pictures from the mechanic today. When I mess it up, I do it for real. Resized_IMG_6586.jpgIMG_6583.jpg Resized_IMG_6584.jpg
You might ask where I was rock crawling or what crazy thing I was doing, but the only possible answer I have was a hard braking event. A traffic light I’m at fairly often cycled through a full red-green-yellow-red in about 15 seconds as I was coming up to it, faster than I’ve ever seen it do, opposing traffic already rolling, so I braked harder than normal. It felt like the rear locked up for a second, but I was paying more attention to the traffic than the truck. Didn’t think anything of it, no noise, vibration, etc after. A day or so later, I had a cyclic noise going on, but no vibration or anything else crazy. I thought I might have warped the rotors, trying to hear where it was while driving left zilch of an idea. I had 1 shift of work left going into 5 days off, planned to just swap rotors and brakes with a PowerStop kit.

Didn’t make it home. Made it off the highway into the gas station, and she was done. Father in law helped me trailer her and drop her off, new rear ring/pinion to be installed this week.

Side note: this is a 2015 4WD DCLB automatic, yet local shop had VIN confirmed with local dealer and they said factory should have 4.10 gears. Everything I’d read had 3.73’s in an auto, has anyone else known this to be the case? They’re going to count confirm either way but figured I’d ask.

After a little love with a flap disc and some paint..think it turned out ok.

Those notches are for the grill and hood latch. Just waiting for my spoil of wire to finish up mounting and wiring.

100% for sure factory gears are 3.73 on that. But like Reagan said, trust, but verify. Some PO could have changed it

I like this. Was your truck pre wired for the temp or did you have to do it yourself?

Well with our trucks we have to wire ourselves the temp. sensor is there but it wont work with Bob's mirrors, but it wasn't to hard. We have metal straws and I pushed it thru the main gromit where the hood latch cable is and fed the wires thru it then removed it. Up in headliner wiring is there but my camera won't work so going to use threads onTW to wire it up and hope I do it right for my head unit.

Are your old headlights unusable? I've given up continuing to try and buff out the lenses on my 06 Tacoma. Are you going to trash your old headlights?
