Here's what I propose regarding a tag game:

    Rules are easy...

    1. Find a SIMILAR tag and reproduce the photo (as best as possible). Take the tag to a new location, get the photo and post it here.
    2. Upon posting your new tag, the tagger is responsible for specifying what it is in the photo that must be reproduced. Be specific, but not so specific that no one else will be able to play because we couldn't find another pink school bus.
    * Try to place the tags in interesting locations, objects or places that could probably be found in at least the majority of the continent.
    3. Tag must be: a) Common amongst North America & not placed on a trail or seasonal road. Dirt is ok, but remember some of us are on street bikes.
    * Maintained gravel is OK, but make sure to let folks know that gravel is required to get to your tag. We don't want to exclude those who don't like to get dirty.
    4. The first person to post a found tag gets to place the next tag. If you get a tag, but somebody else posts their picture first, you lose.
    5. One tag at a time within thread. File photos are NOT permitted. You gotta ride to play this game.
    6. No whining There are plenty of folks here that will help you understand the rules
    7. The holder of the tag determines if the tag has been duplicated and acknowledges it by posting on the thread. (Surrendering the Tag)
    8. No Pre-Arranged Tag Handoffs / Linear Tag sequence
    9. The motorcycle in the picture must get to the tag location under its own power and be ridden there by you.
    10. Last but not least, should the tag be soo ridiculous that no one is able to reproduce it, it can be voted down if a majority of the active participants feel necessary.
    11. Don't post a 'Grab' unless you have a new 'Tag' picture ready to go. This avoids other players losing riding time while you go find a new tag pic. Have one ready when you post your grab pic.
    12. 2 by 2 rule: After a player has grabbed a tag and posted a new one, that player is not eligible to grab the next placed tag unless the tag has sat for two days or longer. This one keeps the game from being monopolized by a couple of players and gives more people (with real lives) a chance to participate.

I've copied these directly from the North American tag game on FJRForum.com where it's been being played for years. I'm open to suggestions, modifications, criticism, etc. Provided others are okay with this I will start a new thread and just in the interest of getting it started I will use one of my old photos to get moving. If you prefer and give me a few days I will go take a fresh photo but if you want to start right away I'll have to use an old one.

    My opinion:
I dont like the tag idea. I dont want something to hand off or leave somewhere for someone else to pick up. That negates the idea that someone from CA would not be able to join, or someone across the country.. We are dealing with maybe 15+ people?
We are also not in a time crunch. I dont want to make official rules, but something like @Gunshot-6A said like in the photography thread, a week should be enough time to find the challenge, take a pic, upload it, and think of a new one to propose. Maybe just write your TW username and the date - that way anyone can do it, even if you dont have a pen and paper all the time.. grab a napkin from a gas station.

These make sense to me! Honestly don't want the game to be so easy that 1. it doesn't require at least a bit of riding and thinking to achieve and 2. whoever is most active on the forum will just be able to recreate the picture. Having to think and figure out how and where to get the picture is half the fun, the other half being getting to ride, of course.

Will this be a trust thing or do we need to have a time stamp of some sort?

I was under the assumption it's a similar tag (not sure what exactly it would be). Maybe we could all buy a cheap key chain or trinket for <$10 on Amazon to include in the pics? That would also ensure that the pictures are current/not taken previously.

    Copied from photography thread:
    1) Anyone can submit!! Don't feel like that just cause you don't have a fancy DSLR BIKE or something you can't participate :)
    2) NO ARCHIVED PHOTOS! you must shoot a new shot! and it must be done during this week!
    3) unlimited photos, but mark which one you want to enter
    4) Read the current challenge (at Post 1) to see if it outlines specific rules

    Sorry, no prizes. :p

    Get out and ride!

yes and no.., IMO. I guess I could go buy something and remember to keep it on the bike.. I just kinda like TW name/date on whatever you want to write it on. Maybe take the time to put sticks in the dirt?

Yeah I'm fine either way, or even going the trust route and doing away with tags altogether and just recreating pics.

I think you guys misunderstood the “tag”. It’s not a literal thing that has to be found. The tag is just the photo in a similar location.

Example: @BkerChuck takes a photo of his bike next to a flagpole in a cemetery in PA. The “tag” would be me taking a similar looking picture of my bike next to a flagpole in a cemetary in CO.

I like this a little better too, if the goal is to just give us a reason to ride then it gives more people a chance to participate. Maybe instead of a full week we could split it into a 4 day and 3 day section per week, Mon-Thur and Fri-Sun since people will probably have more time on the weekend anyway.

Correct, there is no physical "tag".

Tag simply means the photo. Recreate the posted photo with a similar photo. Example below

I used this with the "tag" being a photo of your bike with a motorsports themed business that is NOT a garage or repair shop. I would have accepted any restaurant or bar that used a motorsports theme.

For reference, the photography comp goes Monday-Sunday with the winner being picked the following Monday AM.

Seems to work out pretty well since there's participating members working different shifts, alt work schedules, weekends, etc.

I like the photography thread style idea. Just make sure to have you bike in the pic that matches the theme chosen! Does the previous weeks winner (who chooses the theme for the following week) choose the winner for their theme?

I'm in for this game as well. I think we should keep it simple as far as the rules go.

I don't think we need to be too strict on identifying the photos (timestamp, holding up your TW name, etc). I also think that the one rule in @BkerChuck 's copied post, regarding having a new photo ready immediately to post once you have your matching tag photo done, is a bit ambitious, or could result in a lot of basic, regular destinations just for the sake of being able to be the first to be able to post. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but way I see it this game is to encourage you to ride places you wouldn't normally ride. Wouldn't be as fun if it became a race to post, and subsequent tags just became "find a fire hydrant" or something because that's what was nearest.

And as someone who works 8-5 on weekdays, I would prefer a weeklong span between

Only time period we need to worry about I think is for the most previous poster, before they can post again if no one else is able to obtain a matching photo. I think a week is fair, as that gives us weekend warriors a chance.

Yes, in the photo challenge comp.

Person X chooses theme on Monday morning for week 1

    *Following Monday*

Person X announces winner of Week 1 competition as Person Y

Shortly after, Person Y announces the topic for week 2.

    *Following Monday*

Person Y announces winner of Week 2 competition as Person Z

    *repeat to infinity*

This sounds like a diff setup, more competition based. I could also be in for that, which would almost remove the time urgency aspect, and give most if not all a fair chance of being selected for the next weeks challenge.

Will Person Y need to have a picture of the topic they announce first, or do they just choose one for the others to go out and find?

This is what I was thinking, in the case of initiating the new week's topic would it be acceptable to have person Y use a previously taken photo that could then be re-created? Obviously we wouldn't want someone using the same photo more than once though to keep things fresh and interesting.

Is person Y the first person who submitted a picture? Or anyone of Xs choosing?

I was thinking the first person to respond to Xs post with an acceptable picture would be the winner, and then have a week from the submission to submit a new picture/topic.

We could also have the winner of the contest have to sit out two or more rounds as mentioned previously so the same two or three people don’t keep winning.
