I just got my build sheet for the truck I ordered and they didn't add the LED headlights/foglights option. I worked through a general manager who placed the order and the dealership didn't catch it because it said LED DRL's which he thought was the same thing at quick glance.

Does anyone know how expensive it would be to add them after I get the truck? Is it just plug and play? If my math is correct, the package was only like $485 but the dealer is unable to add the package and doesn't think he can add it as a PIO accessory package. $485 for better headlights and foglights vs what, 2k for ordering the parts individually and installing myself seems like an issue.

Do any Toyota people here know how to get it added back? The build date is a couple weeks out I think.

I think they can be found online for about $1,200, and the harness is $100 or so.
It seems the least they could do, is cut you a deal on the lights, and install them at no charge or a discounted rate.
two ways of looking at it- you didn’t pay for them, so they don’t owe you anything,,, other than to attempt to help right a wrong.

Other than the LED headlights, the rest of the truck is exactly what I wanted (once he deleted all the garbage add-ons that mysteriously got added). So I really can't complain TOO much. A buddy said his 2021 OR Taco came the same way and his aftermarket LED headlights were like $500 so it isn't a deal breaker by any means. I'm just trying to get what I ordered as I ordered it. The dealer and the GM really went out of their way to make this happen for me so I have zero room to be angry. Just trying to help get this added. When we hung up the phone he promised to make a call to see if he could get it fixed. The system wouldn't allow him to add it so I'm not holding my breath.

It is what it is. Chicago region said I couldn't even get a truck!

They went out their way to get what happen to you ? It’s not hard to get a Tacoma anymore. And used prices have really softened up a bit… you lose nothing by shopping around but you can also go the new route and retrofit

Led lights are not $500 btw easily 1500 once all is said and done and tax has been factored in

Good luck. For some reason my truck came with blackout package broken out separately (black badges, black tailgate inserts, and tailpipe cover). Only thing is tailgate cover was listed and is chrome. Ummm duh, isn’t that supposed to be black chrome? I pointed that out and asked dealer to switch the chrome with the black. I don’t really mind chrome but duh the white truck basically has blackout package. Think dealer would swap chrome tailpipe cover for black. Parts basically same price, maybe $10 difference. Nope. Wouldn’t do it. Toyota dealers are basically just pass thru middle man from factory and these ports. They’re not doing squadoosh other than dealing for Toyota and whatever the Toyota gods give them.

The chicagoland region refused to place my order. I spoke to every dealer within 100 miles of my house and all refused. This is the note that one of the sales guys sent me. I even drove to their headquarters in Aurora, IL (which is not a close drive for me) and they were like "too bad, so sad."

    upload_2023-8-15_17-27-1.png

After I got that I started calling every district office in the country and the one in Ohio had the truck ordered the next day. I prefer the OEM with upgraded fogs for $485. Hopefully he can swing it. If not, I'll go aftermarket. I'm looking into that now.

In case I haven't said it enough. Fuck the Chicago regional office.

From what I understand it's not worth it to get anything that's available in aftermarket. It's either the Phillips H9 upgrade or OEM LEDs.

sorry to hear about your situation. maybe the dealer will sell you the lights at their cost to make things right?

Toyota isn't like most manufacturers and doesn't allow ordering: the dealer didn't actually order it for you and they don't entirely have control over what it comes with. Toyota builds common configurations and then allocates them to regions and dealers in those regions can put in requests for allocations based on customer requirements. It's not uncommon for a dealer to get allocated an almost perfect match and then have to figure it out by making change requests to allocated-but-not-yet-built-vehicles. Anything factory installed is basically unchangeable but they can make requests for port installed options.

This isn't a Chicago dealer limitation, this is how Toyota works worldwide. You haven't been able to factory order a Toyota for years.

    There's a decent explanation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/askcarsales/comments/s8e0wj/does_toyota_not_do_custom_orders/?rdt=52230

I've never in my life wanted to spend my money so badly that I would go through all of this to buy something. And Fords and other brands have LED lights that are causing problems because of their crappy illumination, while Toyota is one of the few brands that has good ratings... so why would anyone want to mess with that? This is truly a first world problem...

The blackout package was also broken out on mine. Here's what it says it comes with: Blackout Package includes: Tailgate Insert (Black)Exhaust Tip (Black Chrome)Blackout Emblem Overlays.

In case anyone is curious, here's the stuff that was on my build sheet that I didn't order (or want):

    Blackout Package PIO $430.00
Bed Lighting Kit PIO $149.00 (I was going to order the parts separately and install them myself but for an extra $20 or so they are done and in warranty so I kept it)
    Door Edge Guards PIO $110.00
    Mudguards PIO $129.00
All-Weather Floor Liners and Door Sill Protectors PIO $258.00

Packages that were added that could not be deleted (which I wanted anyway so that worked out for me):

TRD Premium Of-Road Package (Access Cab) FIO $1,945.00
    Technology Package FIO $770.00

I hope you can get the OE package for the sticker price.

But if not, I would not buy aftermarket options. I'd save up for OE headlights and then Diode Dynamics fogs.

I've heard the LEDs can be a problem in snow as they are not hot enough to melt it. Considering where you live, that might be worth research

You could be right. But that's the thing. There wasn't a single one in the country with that build/color for sale and after the GM made some calls, I had confirmation of one being built within a couple days and a month later received a VIN and a buildsheet. Maybe I got lucky and there was one coming that was pretty damn close but the Chicago region didn't make it happen. Sounds like they could have done the same, but they didn't. I would have been stuck with the garbage on their lots. At least Cincinnati got me my truck, whether there was one coming or he called Mr. Toyota himself. Don't know, don't care.

Dealers will often trade with other dealers for the right match. Allocations are on fixed cadences and just happened today, though, so if this all went down today it's just good timing.

kmg was kind enough to scrape the Toyota allocations and make it available for folks here: https://flatgithub.com/kissmygritts...&sha=716ad1fc934ad165ff0676e672f463a3792421e8

so if you have the VIN you can confirm exactly where the truck was originally allocated. ;)

Things often appear in this inventory before the dealers even know. I grabbed my Tacoma off a lot in SoCal before it even hit the website. The sales guy didn’t even know what I was talking about until he checked with his manager who hadn’t even seen the allocations yet.

I'll be picking it up in Michigan. I live in IL.

Let's just say a LOT of phone calls got me to the point of having a truck. I've been trying to get an off road Access cab in MGM since 2021.

+1 on this. If the dealer admits the error, can you get the necessary parts “at dealer cost”? Worth a shot.

When he tried to add the option the system wouldn't let him. I asked him to check to see what my options were. I told him the LED headlights were important to me and he seemed sympathetic. If he can't add the option I asked him to check what he could do to get them installed. The only thing he said was they wouldn't install anything where wires had to be cut. So he seemed open to try to help. Hopefully I'll know something tomorrow.
