Having bought a stripped SR w/o door nameplates, I didn't need to worry about dipping or overlaying black on the door letters since chrome isn't my thing. I wanted something subtle and picked up these decals/stickers in "dark gray gloss" and I really like the unintended visuals: Different angles and lighting give these the look of almost not being there or a kind of ghost image or the intended dark gray. I'm going to get the same type of decal for the embossed tailgate lettering.

Use a heat gun and they'll come off clean. Don't leave the heat gun concentrated in one place, you could damage the paint. Wave it back and forth over the decal to distribute the heat evenly. If you need a visual, probably hit up YouTube. search under car decal removal or something like that.

Truth be told, that is the truck I wish I had. I think silver looks better over time. I think MGM looks better now, when it's clean. But in the long run, silver looks better clean or dirty and I think the paint holds up better to the elements. Sweet truck, enjoy!

I pick up silver taco for long term thats why I went with this color, going to keep this truck as long as I can, with that being said, scratches really fuck me up in my head so with silver It does not show up that easy

I completely agree. I drive 35k a year and all of the rock chips and little scratches showed too much on my white one.

I love this color. Occasionally I see a cool looking LR, Black, or FG, and still wouldn’t trade for any other color.IMG_1885.jpgIMG_1890.jpgIMG_1950.jpg

    What color is your truck?

Oh you know, it's celestial silver.

Do these ridiculous names actually help them sell vehicles?

It appears to be a dealer badge...looks like it says BILL PENNEY with the Toyota logo in the center.

Not a recent photo...but this is my 2022 TRD OR. Placed an "order" (or whatever the hell Toyota calls them) in December 2021 and took delivery in May 2022. I spent the previous 20 years driving MINIs, so my first truck was quite the change of pace...I absolutely love it though.

I would say it's less about selling vehicles than it is about differentiating paint colors/codes. Toyota (clearly) changed the paint on some level, which warranted a new paint code. Instead of referring to all silver-colored Gen3 Tacoma's as "silver"...they differentiate the paint by code AND name. They have to call it something, so they throw names for the silver color at the wall until something sticks. At the end of the day, Celestial Silver Metallic is a pretty cool-sounding name. I mean paint color names from different manufacturers are really no different, I came from the MINI world and they have had seven (!!!!!) different names for silver since 2002...Crystal Silver Metallic, Dark Silver Metallic, Melting Silver Metallic (TBH this one is pretty cool), Pure Silver Metallic, Sparking Silver Metallic, Velvet Silver Metallic, White Silver Metallic.

It's probably easiest to imagine it this way...there's a situation where you need to have a repair done, so your Tacoma goes to a body shop in need of some bodywork and repainting. If Toyota just called their different silver-colored paints, "silver", there's a greater chance the body shop gets the wrong paint, and repaints your truck with, say, Silver Sky paint vs. Celestial Silver paint (or vice-versa). Now you have mismatched body panels, and you're posting to TW about how the body shop screwed up & what should you do.

I need to put this on my page. My apologies. I wished that having build details was standard practice as it would have helped out my research as well.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...3rd-gen-today.399305/page-13245#post-28997737

I am happy with this setup. I pieced it together after contacting Colton, memario1214 with Hotshot Offroad. He was very helpful in listening to what I was going for and helping to piece together my lift. I sat on the parts for the better part of a year before I decided on what tire I wanted for the new build. I wanted a good AT that was snow rated and as light as possible. I wanted to keep at least factory rake and give me some room to pack it up without looking level or getting into negative rake. I forget what settings up front. I don't think we went maxed out, buy I did go with 650# coils over the standard 600# coils up front. I REALLY like how it came out both looks wise and ride. I went with the RXT at stage 3 in the back. Glad I did. I don't feel it's harsh. I didn't care for the too soft feeling that the OR's come with from the factory. WAY too much nose dive. It feels more truck-like. Firm, but not at all uncomfortable. The price between the Toyo Tires AT3 for 33's vs. 34's were next to nothing, so I opted for the slightly taller 285/75/17's in E load. They are mounted on the SCS F5 in 17 x 8.5 -10mm offset. I think it is the perfect combo for what I was going for. I have a 3rd gen 4Runner with -25mm offset F5's and they sling crap all up the side of the vehicle, so clean rigs don't stay clean too long, especially here in the PNW. LOL. Some of the other details are in the original post I linked.

Trust me, I'm pickier than hell about my vehicles. However, the way a salesman at the dealership (Mario Miller) treated me I'll leave it on for quite awhile. People help me and I try to return the favor. I have no affiliation with the dealership at all. I got one hell of a good deal!
