I have found soda nastiness in the console/shifter area of bunches of cars over the years.

Seems like a popular way to gum up the works.

I was already looking at handles as a possible plan. I only found a couple that gave the eye size, and both were too small.

Last night I was laying awake and remembered that I know a guy that has a lot of ash! I have no idea if I can turn a log into a handle, but, what the heck. I decided I should have a draw knife and maybe give it a whirl.

Grabbed an old mower blade from under the bench
    IMG_20230815_092312.jpg
    Got cutting
    IMG_20230815_101036.jpg
and grinding, and sanding, and polishing
    IMG_20230815_110759.jpg

Use the tool to make the tool
    IMG_20230815_114210.jpg

more sanding, finished off on the vertical lathe
    IMG_20230815_120904.jpg
    IMG_20230815_141717.jpg

A bit of stain, and now I guess I need to find a log to whittle.

Well fellers, in an effort to do a better job o_O I went to Slowe's for some new blades. Regular readers know my blades have a difficult life... ;)

    Damn, Sam!
They are about $60 a pair... :spending:

Meanwhile, back at the cabin, this tire has been giving me a bit of concern, after all I want (need, I'm poor) to get the most use from it.

    KIMG3281.jpg

It isn't as bad as it seems, it holds air still -- for most of a week. :D

Anyhow, as I'm grumbling about the exorbitant price of the blades that I will probably find a new rock with inside of half an hour I happen to look on the floor under the blade rack. Hmm

    KIMG3282.jpg

Well, now - that size seems familiar. :)

Whaddya know - the sun shines on a dog's @$$ now and then it would seem!

 Depending on what I'm doing with it, it can also be a "mill" press.

That’s my gut too. Cable needs lube. These were sometimes a light silicone lube and older used graphite. Should be safe with ATF or tool oil. Beyond this, perhaps check fluid/level. It might finally be time…

I once dropped a full 44oz Diet coke on my shifter, it ran down into the console...everywhere:anonymous:. Anyhow, the next day my shifter wouldn't stay in gear unless you held it in place, it would pop right out.
I somehow managed to get it covered by warranty.

    ------> :wink:

Morale of the story...check fer spillage.:)

Bought new from Amazon and it showed up stuck on 13psi, replacement sent and works as it should, but is there any easy way to get the needle back to 0psi?

If the face will come off you can usually pop the hand off using 2 putty knives 180 degrees apart.
Then press it back on in the zero position & check against a known good gauge.

Probably just a sticky hand. I've had this happen so many times that nowadays I just flick them as soon as I lay eyes on, even when flat. Give that glass plastic a solid somewhat firm thwack.

Yes, the needle is pressed on. Pull upwards and it will release (the rod and center are a taper fit to accept the press capture). You can then either zero, or better… regulate a known pressure and set. Check a few pressures to confirm accuracy. The track ones were all made this way to allow for recalibration.

I had some training today and got bored part way through so I started nosing around and came across a file that listed everyone in my department's name, how much vacation time they have, how much they've accrued this year and how much they've taken. Same for sick leave, dependent sick, jury duty, etc.

Not exactly state secrets but I wasn't expecting to come across it and it was kind of enlightening to see some people's numbers.

Nuetral safety switch is my guess .
Go under truck and disconnect cable from shifter detent on the side of the transmission .
Go back in truck and see how easy the shifter moves
Did it move easy ? This eliminates taking your counsole apart and eliminates the cable .
Go back under the truck and grab the shfiter thats connected to the transmission and try to move it through the gears with your hand .
Make sure the truck wheels are blocked .
How easy was it to move by hand ? You should feel click click click as you go through the gear ranges and it should move easy .
If its tight to click by hand , you need a Nuetral safety switch .
They are famous for seizing up . You can try spraying with lube but most guys end up dropping 300 bucks for a new one
Sorry to ruin your day dude
