Is yours a SG1 or 2? I have the 2, I can't remember if I there's an option for changing the color of the backlight. It's always been amber to match the Tacoma, but the 4runner has a green dash so I might see if I can switch it to green if that's an option. Prefer to keep it in the 4runner since it's older/higher mileage, will probably get an UG for the Tacoma at some point.

Yeah they're still pretty much the same station as always, music-wise. Just don't have Kevin & Bean, Dr. Drew etc that made them so famous 10+ years ago.

I got the Blackstone results back. They weren't as bad as they could've been, but still not great. The presence of K and Na might indicate antifreeze. Let's hope that was just from when the shop was replacing the knock sensors and installing a new intake gasket. Of course, the Cu and Fe don't portend well. The thing is, it has strong compression and runs smooth with no knocking. So what could the source of Fe be? They said to check the intake plumbing for leaks (not sure how to do that), and to check my air filter. I'll send in another sample soon when I hit 2k miles, like they say. Maybe the last oil change was just a fluke if I'm lucky.

You could be right. The truck does idle rough sometimes. I don't have any codes though. I might take it into a shop to be smoke tested in that case.

Or, just order a ton of vacuum lines and replace them.

You could have a ton of neglected lines that are old and dry rotted.

I mean I know you have tons of money to spare to keep taking it to a shop but this is something too simple to just not do yourself.

I have tons of extra new lines for this very reason.

I found this kit online. It looks like the 2002-2004 Tacomas had less vacuum lines than the earlier ones.

Might as well get an OEM air filter too.

    let's not get crazy here

just a regular paper filter of any brand is fine, if you're worried about dirt getting through then I'd stay away from those performance/washable ones.

Like Ryan mentioned, regular filter will suffice

Only made the comment about specific hoses because some of those have hard bends specifically meant for your truck, vs the loose rubber stuff I was originally talking about

The kit you're looking at is even better

I bet once you replace that old line or two that's sucking air, it'll idle better

The vacuum lines don’t seem too crazy on the 5VZ, noting like the older engines that had a rats nest of vacuum lines going everywhere. I see why people like the 02-04s tho. Engine bays are a lot cleaner in those years.

I mean you've been hitting trails you said, your filter should be new with your recent oil change

If I wheel, filter gets cleaned out per oil change

If I didn't go off road during that oil change interval, filter gets cleaned every other oil change

Some people just do it every oil change

It's the cleaning up of, nor to mention doing the non-sequential mod if you're still on the stock twin spoolies.

I ran the non-sequential mod until I went with a single big turbo; my fav car ever.
