hey man, did you ever get around to upgrading to the x joint? Have those now, and have had a tear in my passenger boot for some time. Wondering how hard it is to replace the x joint.

I have not. Seems kinda silly since I have about 15k miles on these balljoints to just swap them out. I know stuff is likely getting in the joints, but overall I’m not too concerned. I’ll probably swap them out in favor of X joints in a year or two. Swapping the balljoints a few years back was kind of a pain. I had to use a torch to get them to free up, and used a press to get them out of the cup, and set the new joints. Keep in mind that this was swapping moogs for moogs, and that these UCAs are on their third set of balljoints so they’re not in the best condition.

edit: and I’m still using the poorly fitting Energy boots, they look like crap, but are better than a torn Moog pos…

    Gotcha

Yeah was trying to look up instructions on how to replace the x joints but can’t find anything.

Is it absolutely necessary to replace boots even if the hole is small enough you can’t see it, but oozes grease?

It’s not ideal, mine leak out of the top, but not much of anything can get in. If I were you, I’d just keep topping off the grease and checking the joints for play every six months. That’s what I do, and it works for now (until I want to get the x joints done). That’s assuming you have zerk fittings on top of the joints too.

Yeah they do. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing too.

    Thanks man!

I will be swapping out my torn / ripped Moog boots for this boot design. What a shame about the moog dust boots.

Where are you sourcing them from? Camburg wouldn’t let me buy the boots alone, and not spending $300 on their X-Joints when my current moog ones are still tight.

Call Camburg; the boots are $10 plus shipping.

I have not received mine yet but hope to in next few days. I ordered a spare moog k80811 joint to validate the boot design on a bench before taking my truck apart.

I had tried what I believe was an energy suspension 13024 which I received a while back? but it was not a good fit. Least to say, this has been on my list to do for a number of years now. My truck is very low milage, so I was able to delay until now.

Thanks for the lead! Camburg told me to kick rocks last year when I asked… I have the energy ones too, and agree they are a terrible fit, but they don’t leak grease from the bottom :D
