Yesterday the Devil charged the Gates of Heaven.

As he approached, he saw that God, his Son, Saint Peter, and a man that the Devil has never seen before all stood at the gates. This stopped him right in his tracks!

Bewildered the Devil stared at the man for a minute not knowing what to make of it. Then he just shrugged and said with a laugh, “Who is this mere mortal to think he can stand against the might of Hell?”

With an evil sneer, the Devil raised his hands, and a thousand demons charged the gates. The man cooly raised his weapon and began firing. With every shot, a demon fell. After half an hour of this the Devil stood alone.

Furious the Devil shifted to his natural beastly form and with a mighty roar charged the gates himself.

The man just smiled, pulled his K-Bar, and waited for the Devil to come.

After the Devil fought against the man he stood back and examined his mighty wounds. He looked up at the man and saw that he too had suffered wounds and looked about dead. So, the Devil charged, again, and again, the man smiled and brought his K-Bar to the ready.

The Devil stopped his charge and curiously looked at the man. He then said, “Who is this mere mortal who is not afraid of me and can stand against the might of Hell?”

    To this Saint Peter raised an eyebrow, Jesus smiled and looked at his father, and while the man went back to attention, God laughed and said, “If you really need to know I will tell you;

I took some of the fire I gave you and turned it into his fighting spirit.
I took some of the stone that I put into the earth and turned it into his will.
I took the ice I put at the top of the world and turned it into his nerve.
Then I finished by giving him a willingness to sacrifice himself for the good of others.
He will not quit until the mission is accomplished.

He is by far my greatest creation; he is the best of man.
    I call him a Marine!"

The Devil hung his head and slinked back to Hell.

Some can be more contaminated than the Camp Lejeune water.

I know a place worse than Camp Lejeune ...... That's the 3rd MAW MCAS El Toro !!! . Nothing like being exposed to aircraft cleaning solvent or TCE/ PCE

That’s more of an instant death of heat stroke, I’d argue that’s less bad than being poisoned by chemicals.

1980-1987 Molded at Parris Island, did 4 years with 10th Marines as a field wireman(2512). After wiring in the battery I would jump in helping on the gun line. That was a "blast". Did 2 Med floats and 1 NATO with 10th Marines. The first one was training and liberty ports, the second float we were involved in the Beirut conflict. My last few years were spent with MWCS 28 Det A at New River Air Station. A year and a half of my re-enlistment was spent teaching at Comm School on Camp Geiger. I got out as a Sergeant.

22D MEU SOC w/ MACG Detachment (2D LAAD, MACS2 detachment) - last MEU before GWOT kicked off - 100% libbo cruise with a few field ops thrown in
MSG Bn - F Co AMEMB Harare Zimbabwe (left early - had some fun and got into it with my det commander)
ELMACO - 2D Maint Bn LeJeune deployed to OIF, chilled in the Kuwait desert, got our shit blown down by a couple of sand storms
2/8 Hot Dogs & Soda Company deployed to Afghizzle... worked for the COMMO and Shop Chief as a 3rd Echelon repair shop

Got the CAR and the NAM for the stuff we did with 2/8. Never wore them on the uniform though as they were awarded after I got out. Was selected for SSGT after 6 years in, was tired of the life and getting lazy so I got out. Dick move to have been selected and waste the slot but it would have been an even dicker move to stay in when my heart wasn't in it. Dude I promoted to CPL whilst Platoon Sergeant of Radio Platoon, ELMACO just retired a First Sergeant after 22 years. That made me feel old.

Visited LeJeune in 2018 when a dude I was mentoring at my company in Virginia was retiring. Hardly recognized the place. Highways and on ramps and offramps and all this stuff. Mainside looked the same. Don't know if Driftwood or La Mirage are still in business; I wasn't there for the swamp donkeys this go-around. Semper 15 minutes prior.

Went to the National Museum of The Marine Corps with the old man last weekend, then ran the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday.

Amazing museum with exhibits that highlights the Marine Corps history, some very sobering experiences in there. The WW2 ones especially.

    I was 0311 with 2/8, dad was a Huey driver with 169 and 369.
