    This.

Sully had a what they thought was a tumor on his liver (he was 11 or 12 at the time). We opted for surgery, and I took the week off to be with him and help him recuperate. What they thought was one tumor, was actually multiple tumors, and they had major problems stopping the bleeding. They called us after the surgery and told us that he could go at any moment or he could last a day, a week, a month. We decided to go and see him one last time and hold his paws and scratch his while we let him go. We don't regret trying the surgery with him- if there hadn't been the complications, he could have had a good life for a few more years.

Emma had cancer. Once it was diagnosed, and her lumps removed, the oncologist said that Emma (or Big Ems as we liked to call her) might benefit from chemo and that she would likely live another 6-12 months. At this point, she was already several months removed from her surgery (it takes a long time to get into the specialists here). Big Ems never liked riding in the car, and chemo was going to require 5 two hour round trips, and wasn't likely to give her a better quality or a much longer lease on life, so we decided to take what time we had and let her enjoy it as much as possible.

We did get almost 7 more months with her before the cancer returned, and worse than before. At least we got to be with her at the end, too.

There's no easy answer, and in some ways you will always wonder if you made the right decision.

Just try to make the best decision for your dog- if they aren't enjoying life, it's time. And be with them at the end. It's then that they need you most.

The collar is a Ray Allen Elusive 2.0 The text is a velcro so you could get 1 made from Amazon or the likes. The collar holds her E-collar inside. Look back for her harness it says things too.

Beautiful. I keep this handy for whenever I feel the loss of my last pups.

    A Dog's Purpose? (From a 6-year-old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.. It has changed the way I try to live.

He said,' People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?''
The Six-year-old continued, ' Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
    Take naps.
    Stretch before rising.
    Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
    Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

My sis sent these to me for my b-day. A photo artist she works with in Vegas is able to take a real life pics I sent her of my pups, and enhance his images into these scenes. Pretty funny stuff.

It's been in the 80's so not so favorable for running outside...in all honesty, we do go but at 0630 or 0700...so now, the new thing is soda bottle. So far, no soda bottles have been returned in less than perfect condition--which is pretty amazing.
