    You need to remember we've both owned quick vehicles :rofl:

    That's exactly why I call it an old mans V8

    It really falls flat on its face and spins lower than any vehicle I can remember owning (gas powered anyway)

    Wasn't sure if Ozark was aware of that fact but hence why I threw it out

    It gets surprisingly good gas mileage though for being 20 years old that's for sure, but I expect an older Camry to beat me off the line even on my best day

    Didn't the VVTI 2UZs make about the same power as the VVT 1, 3UZs? If that's what you're referring to by correcting the issue.

    It reminds me of a Ford 4.6 2-valve.Underpowered but understressed.

    They added VVTI in 05 or 06 and up models but it only added about 30-35 hp and "snappier" response due to the intake manifold setup

    It's still weak, even compared to other V8s of that time from other manufacturers

    No I'm referring to every other UZ having rods and pistons that aren't made of recycled elementary school art projects. The various VVTi implementations make very little difference to peak power, they're for raising the torque curve.

    I'd have nothing to complain about with it had they offered an actually powerful V8 alongside it. But this is what was given... the only option... not even the flagship got something better. Its not a bad engine, I just resent so many vehicles got hobbled with it. If it was the economy option and there was a better engine for some of these nice vehicles it would actually be the Ford 4.6, sure you can have that if you want it but there's a better choice if you have bigger plans.

    Why did Toyota put weaker rods in the 2UZ? You'd think they'd want to beef them up if anything for a 5500 lb truck.

    It also makes their choice to use an iron block puzzling, since the strength advantage of the iron block is only a factor if you're making big power, which obviously the 4.7 isn't. It seems like they might as well have just used the 1UZ honestly.

    @Ozark_RegCab

    You ready for this year's Toyotathon event?

    Buy a car (with warranty) and announce your girlfriend's pregnancy all in one to skip the Applebee's family get together?

    Wait I thought it was the 90-94 1UZs that got the stronger rods. Or did the 4.7 get even weaker rods than the later 1UZ and 3UZ?

    The 3UZ has decent rods, the late 1UZ rods aren't the most desirable but they aren't entirely worthless either. The 4.7 rods are so bad TRD stopped offering the already lame supercharger because they just couldnt take it.

    Hm, maybe it was the longer stroke that made them weaker? Ik the 2rz is more sought after for turbo builds cause of its shorter stroke iirc.
