There is an old adage, anyone can build a bridge, but an engineer can build a bridge that barely stands. The idea is that it's built just right for its application. That's what you are seeing, why go with over built parts when 99.9% of your customers won't need them? It just drives the cost up. Remember, people that modify their trucks are the minority, and those that start to add boost are an even smaller percentage.

And that circles back to the cast iron block. When you are making a big heavy truck, the 200# you save by using aluminum won't be noticed. So why use aluminum that has a higher cost, when the iron block is cheaper? It has nothing to do with them wanting to make big power with boost.

I like the 240, theyre just solid. An absolute bore to drive but something about the chunkyness, weird interior, and complete lack of power is still fun. Be an okay daily as long as you aren't expected to do 70 on the highway.

Speaking of 240, I saw one on the road the other day

Something sexy about the boxiness, then again I like the styling of a Starion/Conquest too so :bananadead:

Agreed. Hard to beat for a no-nonsense around towner. Something about that old boxiness.

It's one of the few old cars I see around and just think, yeah that makes sense, of course it's still puttering around.

    I learned to drive in an 82 240 wagon . 4 speed + external OD. 98hp.

It did surprisingly well on the interstate and was very very sold. It’s the reason I keep being curious about the pre-ford Volvos.

Kind of always wondered if they just designed the whole car but left out the interior and sent it to production and then were surprised when it came out with no interior and had to just come up with something on the spot. Every part of the interior looks like an afterthought and I think that's what makes it so endearing.
