I've seen them fly from tree to tree, they look very awkward, but they do get there. Not at all graceful.

EPO called me to ask what I saw. He said it all confirms what he determined in his investigation. I wrote a statement per his request. He was careful about what information he gave me, but based on what he did say, the guy's in deep trouble.

I think a big part of it (prepare for a farts rant) is city people trying to country. All those NY plates that bought up VT properties in the 'rona, then find out they don't have 5G, a Price Chopper 2 minutes away, the power goes out, someone doesn't come take their trash for them, they have ANIMALS, they get SNOW!? the roads are BUMPY!?

I see it down here. I'm far from growing up on a farm, but hot damn....these some city folks  I went out to clear out some trees after a storm (when my chainsaw worked) and I had a homeowner 3 houses down come out and say they were going to try to save it for firewood. 3 days after the storm blew through. It was blocking a road.

Or, as we saw in Maine this weekend, you send a sedan down the roads, and get a flat, then have to fight getting it on/off, who knows if it's going to be muddy, rainy, if your donut is aired up. "You mean you guys just carry this stuff with you...?"

When it's dumping snow, and we fight and push the RWD summer tires cadillac out of the snow bank he drove himself into, I tell him he won't make it up the hill, give him directions to a main road .1 miles the other way, that will be clear, where he will probably have a fighting chance, but if he goes left.....he's going uphill, in slush, RWD summer tires, from a stop....He won't do well. Guess which way he went....?

Yeah man. Up here in the NEK most of the Corona refugees have left and we're getting climate refugees. Starting to see TX, LA, WA, CO plates and a lot of FL plates that aren't just snowbirds.

Buddy of mine in real estate says lots of tech bros fucking up markets like VT, ID, IA, lots of young people from down south moving to New England.

They'll either figure it out or they won't.

Late to the party. Life has been hectic and I cannot find the time to catch up on a couple threads, this being one of them. We moved last August to a more rural location in Maine and built a house at the end of a right of way, extending the road about another 700 feet farther back than it had been before. We knew when we moved that we would hear target practice and we would hear it at various times and no big deal. Last month though one night it was much louder and sounded closer than normal. To make a long story short, 5 guys were shooting about a 1000 feet away through the woods at a berm but had placed their mail box on a pole on top of the berm and proceeded with target practice for the next hour or so. Within a half hour of them starting an AR15 bullet came through our bedroom window. We had called 911 when they started as they seemed too close and a leisurely, loud noise police response turned into a sirens and lights response when we called back to let them know our house had been struck. Sheriff came to our house quietly, figured out where they were shooting from then went off to confront them. People had been shooting at that location for 20 years but no one checked to see what was down range and just assumed it was fine like it had always been. The were given a felony summons for reckless conduct with a firearm. It will most likely be pleaded down to a misdemeanor with restitution. None of the 5 had any criminal history or prior offenses and all ten guns they had were legally registered. So in some instances the penalty can indeed be greater.

I will add to this, from talking with friends who do EMS in rural settings. The NYC crowd gets mad when the ambulance take 45 minutes to get to them out in East Goat Hump. Then, then, they get really pissed when they find out that the nearest hospital is an hour away by road and NO, they don't qualify for a medivac helicopter. Oh, that hospital has two beds in the emergency room and a Physician's Assistant working the overnight shift because the doctors don't want. The REAL hospital is three hours by road. If they can find an ambulance.

Or the fire department is all volunteer and it's hard to get them to respond during weekdays because they all have jobs. So, mostly unless you have a $20,000.00 sprinkler system with a good pump and a back up generator your house is going to burn down. Then set the woods on fire.

Police? One deputy or one officer, or one state troop for 372 sq miles. THAT'S why all their "hick" neighbors have guns and know how to use. And when.

There are some upsides to rural living, but you better be prepared to be self sufficient.

My old job the policy was to page 911 first because half the VFD worked on the shop floor. If you called 911 they'd have to run from the shop to the station to then respond.

Same thing in Hudson Valley during peak covid, bunch of city fucks bought up all the cheap real estate, blew prices out for everything, realized they're not cut out for anything other than living in a major metropolitan area, and now it's a second home/vacation property and everything is still blown out. They litter, have no respect for the area or land, hiking spots and anything remotely outdoorsy were inaccessible on weekends and everyone crowding it up were the rudest assholes I've ever met on the trail. So things like this biting that type in the ass? Oh well :notsure:

Pioneer CD, Megaloud/JBL amps, Rockford/Polk speakers.

We have families of them here. Some are very tame and make their little dirt bath area near the shed. I always say "you're safe just stay out of the garden". Long ago a jake (child) got in my garden somehow. I actually counted a flock of 30 plus once on an adjacent street.

Not always wise, ask me how I know

Impressive for sure. They roost in pine trees at night here, I swear one got a good 30 something feet up

My pup came across a few turkeys in the woods one day. Excited chasing commenced and off my dog went. No amount of yelling would convince her to return. Heard a commotion overhead and one turkey had flown 75 feet up a pine tree. Then the pup appeared. No turkeys were harmed though at least one was out of breath.

Yeah the mapping to get to the trains is shenanigans, but there's a couple signs. The only other thing is around Saint Francis lake, and that's because there actually IS an old road that goes tight to the lake, but it's overgrown as all hell.

@Merling - we'll be doing another trip next year fo sho. If you're going to go solo, let me know and I'll throw together a decent route that won't be in the sticks, if you get a flat/need help, you'll actually see some people.
