Toyota has been outdated for decades…and really, hybrid tech is fairly outed itself. Just took Toyota forever to put it in a truck.

That Tundra bearing issue is very concerning. Hopefully no issues with the T24.

So the leader in hybrid tech worldwide is outdated?

It has been around for 26 years, it isn’t anything new. Took them almost 3 decades to put it into a truck. Right at the moment that other manufacturers are going full electric. We probably won’t see a hybrid Tacoma until late ‘24 early ‘25. Supposedly have an EV Taco ‘26-‘27, so yeah it will be outdated by the time it hits the dealer’s floor.

What would you rather have a hybrid or BEV? Just wait a few more years and get the BEV. I won’t be in the market for a new truck for 3 years anyways. Honestly the 4G Tacoma is too little too late. Sure it improved over the 3G, think I’ll just skip it like I did the 2G.

It's been around for 26 years. It works for Toyota and it's consumers. Seems to be fine for them both. So now it's in a truck it isn't good enough?

Think you’re missing the point. Added to my post, maybe that will make more sense.

I dunno, you said it's outdated. BUt this is the only hybrid pickup lineup on the market, I think?

Maybe this will make more sense. What you rather have a hybrid? Or a full BEV with solid state batteries that got a 700 mile range?

Would have loved to see the BEV released for ‘24, than a hybrid, since it is only a stop-gap measure.

Well a Toyota BEV pickup is confirmed in or before 2026. Some on here were complaining they wanted a hybrid or PHEV and now it's outdated?

Yep. Why buy a stop-gap technology, when in 2-3 years you can buy something that will blow it out of the water? Think I rather wait. Heck, went 20 years in between truck purchases, believe I can wait a few years for the next evolution in trucks. It is already happening, they aren’t quite there yet for me, but in a short 2-3 years they just might. Maybe if it was in 10, yeah a hybrid would make sense, but not now. Toyota always seems to behind the curve. Finally put turbos in, while other manufacturers are already moving to the next better thing. Starting to see more and more Rivians, Lightnings running around here. Saw the Ford yesterday pulling a fishing boat, wow the guy was actually using it as a truck!

I personally, have reached the conclusion that even a hybrid powertrain is basically outdated in 2024. Still have to change oil and service all those ICE components. Twenty years from now we will be looking at the ICE as a remarkable relic akin to the steam engine. Beautiful and elegant, but dirty and obsolete. BTW, just drove by the SK/Ford mega battery plant in Kentucky. Looks like they are all in.

I think the Tacoma EV will come out in '25 but it won't have the SS batteries. Without the range/recharge capabilities, a full EV won't work for a lot of people. There may be enough charging stations in 5+ years to make conventional battery EVs more practical, but in the mean time a PHEV would have been a great transition vehicle. Instead we got a conventional hybrid. Heck, they're even making us wait until next summer for those.

My wife and I were talking about retirement plans yesterday, me in 3, her in 10. And what vehicles to get. 3 years if the BEV Taco is available, I might consider it, plus keep the 3G for travel. That covers a lot of bases even if the infrastructure isn’t quite there yet. If the BEV Taco gets the range they are saying it will, infrastructure may not be even be an issue.

And in 10 years? We plan on hitting the road an awful lot. The vehicle landscape is going to look totally different. Even have self propelled EV travel trailers, that will extend the tow vehicles range.

    Everything EV is very appealing.

Would love to have an electric dirt bike, hear how quiet this Varge is.
