All I want is a PHEV truck with solid state batteries that weigh just as much or less than the hybrid battery but with 100 mile range. Standard size gas tank and regenerative braking.

At this point I would rather have the full electric truck as long as it’s not stupidly expensive (Rivian). Much less things to break and less maintenance.

Ford has the Maverick hybrid and the lightning. Ram has the e-torque. Rivian, Cyber Truck, Fisker has a truck coming out. Seems like Toyota is late to the game to me.

I like the Lightning and have priced it out lately. It’s $74K minimum with the big battery. That’s too much for me. The front trunk would be awesome though. Especially a summer like this where it rains here almost everyday.

Or just milk a conventional gasser for another 10 years. The upcharge alone of hybrid isn’t worth it. Since Toyota loves to tie options in certain trim packages. From a base model to get the hybrid, it is $17K difference in the Tundra with only a 2 mpg gain city. Never will pay for itself. Isn’t the whole point of buying a vehicle with better fuel economy is to save money? In the Tundras case, the fuel savings is about nil.

lol! Would be cool if we got a diesel, but Toyota missed that boat ages ago. There is a diesel/hybrid option for the new Land Cruiser overseas. That seems like a better stop-gap than the gasser, but we will never see it.

    Saving the planet isn’t cheap!

“They” want us all to convert to EVs, but it will cost ya! Not sure how they plan to get everyone on board if it is out of most people’s reach, or even if they have the cash to blow $100K. (Rivian is an easy $100K OTD)

Can think of a heck of a lot of things I could buy for that. That gets me a F250 with a Four Wheel Camper, an enclosed 6X12 cargo trailer and couple bikes. Might even have a couple grand left over for gas for a trip or six…

…or buy a 144” Sprinter AWD for $65-70K and three bikes. lol! Orrrr….

Yeah the front trunk is cool, not a fan of 5’ beds, but could make it work. Couple bikes in the bed, then toss the gear bags in the front trunk, so not to screw up the interior.

    lol!

Sure do like diesels, but similar to hybrid…not worth the upcharge. You’ll save on fuel, but you won’t save any money. Not even sure at this point if the hybrid Tacoma will save you much fuel if any. The Tundra sure wouldn’t.

I’ll just wait and see what BEVs are like, don’t think they’ll be cheap though.

SS batteries will probably be here in 4 years that size. The dash radio they have in the trail hunter already has one

Our summers are so dry, we could use it! Supposedly we might get 2-3” of rain this weekend from the remnants of a hurricane coming up from the South. Hopefully we do so it can quell some forest fires we have going on.

Smoke was bad yesterday, it is killing my sinuses.

August is the worst month here, triple digit temps plus usually have smoke.

One of my buddy’s son is currently working on one in Oregon right now. Check this out, burning from the inside.

How long will the longevity of the battery be though? How much is the battery replacement cost, and how much of a hit on resale on a truck approaching manufacturer battery replacement cost be? I never hear a whole lot about the inevitable 2-20K (depending on vehicle) battery replacement cost that will be a thing for all electric vehicles. Until they get some kind of control on those costs...I'm not even looking twice at any of them, Hybrid or not.

The tech is cool, and I like the idea, what I don't like is knowing, that no matter how I take care of the vehicle, how well its maintained, driven etc...that I will (if I want to keep it) have to spend a large amount of money on a battery at some point.

EV's already don't hold as much of their value as much as NA vehicles on the resale market..that will get worse the older they get.

So update , talked to the woman at Toyota. She's trying to tell me the warranty guy at corporate said because I took it off road , that is the reason why the bolt came loose and they have conditions. I own a trd off road model, it is marketed to go on gravel roads . Also they can't prove that was what caused it , no way it wasn't loose from factory. If it was caused from gravel roads you think more then 1 of the 8 bolts would be loose. So it looks like I'll be in for a fight here . And this will definitely sour me moving forward with Toyota. How can they say they have clauses for taking a truck they market for off road but won't stand behind their product for certain things like this which shouldn't come loose imo

I understand what you mean. But Toyota wants to wait for better battery tech. I see their point and yours. Toyota always wins out though..lol

They wanted to push it out even further, they also fired the ceo who suggested it. He wasn’t wrong, but if they wait too long going to loose sales to other manufacturers. Which aren’t they loosing sales to Tesla currently? Cars in general that is.
