    Hello there,

Quick question for any current or prior Toyota Service Advisors, OR anyone who might know the answer to this.

Bought my 2017 Tacoma 2.7L last year at 80k miles from dealer. Went to have transmission flushed yesterday, and asked Service Advisor if they could print off all prior services completed in it's history. At 60k the transfer case and both front and rear diff's are supposed to have fluid changed & spark plugs replaced. Only an oil change was completed.

Is the dealership responsible to change those fluids prior to selling the preowned vehicle to someone else since it is Toyota's recommended services per vehicle manual?

    Thanks

No. They're generally only responsible for recalls and sometimes TSB's if the issue pops up in their checks. Not maintenance.

Smart of you to ask for service history though.

Absolutely not. It is the owners responsibility to perform all maintenance outside of Toyota Care. Plus, who's to say the prior owner didn't flush the trans and service the diffs themselves?

You can log into Toyota and with your vin find all services completed. Once you do a service you can add that to the service records as well.

The only thing a dealer is responsible for when selling a used vehicle is taking as much of your money as possible.

I attempted to get the service records from the dealer and they wouldn't provide them to me. Is there a way around this?

Again look at Toyota app. You enter your VIN Create an account and it’s all there

The dealer must want you to take their word that the truck was well maintained.

I'm in Canada and its a 2010, so I can't get the app to work and when I pull it up on the website, it's blank. I'm guessing that is why I can't see anything on the website/app.

I think they were maybe concerned about me seeing if the previous owners had tried to get the frame recall done...because it needs it and is passed.

Sounded to me like the dealer was trying to hide something.

They said it was a privacy concern or something? I thought that was weird, it's not like I'm asking for the previous owners name or credit card information.

Its because the previous owners name will be on the service records. They can't give you service records with the previous owners name, number or prior addresses. If you bought privately and they offered them by all means, or the dealer did a service before you purchased they will provide this. I'm sure you don't show up or contact the previous owners but many buyers seem to think they can for a multitude of reasons.

I was replying to the first post that had a 2017. I always worry when the dealer won’t show you related information. I would put your vin into Toyota to see if there are any open recalls. (2010 I doubt any will still be active) but newer like the 2017 will have possible open ones.
I wouldn’t have purchased a vehicle from the dealer without detailed history. I had asked my dealer and they immediately printed it out and said if I had any questions please give us a call.

Yeah that makes sense. I wasn't really asking for the actual records, but information from them about work done but they wouldn't provide it.
