That’s mostly an infrastructure problem which I think has a reasonable chance of being resolved in 10-15 years. And dude overpaid for a beta version.

Where I hit the wall is the amount of battery power and required technology needed to push a brick shaped truck weighing 5-7k lbs for 350 miles per charge. Throw in dual motors and truck shit, an EV Tacoma they way we know it is going to be astronomically priced.

Take the model 3 AWD. Pretty much a Camry grade build, unibody, few frills, high volume direct sales costs 56-58k before the fed rebate. Now add BOF, heavy duty suspension, towing equipment, bigger wheels/tires bigger everything, including likely 2x the battery to move it. My estimate of 60k is optimistic.

I've never researched it, but it seems the worst fire seasons can happen after a good snowpack. Heavy snowpack causes a lot of spring understory brush growth. If the rains don't come, it leaves tons of kindling ready to go up in flames.

We always say something along those lines spring early summer. “Look how green it is! Yeah, plenty of fuel for fire season when it dries out.”

Someone will build a reasonably priced EV truck and they will steal the market. I’m not talking about an 800 HP truck with a billion high tech doodads. A normal truck with 350 HP and standard features. A Chevy bolt sells for under $30K and a Tesla 3 for $40K. There no reason an EV truck can’t be sold for under $50K.

Unfortunate, I love B.C. Hard to imagine it all on fire. Though living in Idaho it is part of life.

Carrying a chainsaw on the dirt bike is darn near mandatory equipment. At least most of it is lodgepole.

I know uh, it isn’t rocket surgery. With a skateboard chassis, should to be able to plop any body configuration on there that you can dream up.

Fire season means fat overtime for me. I worked 40 hours OT in the last 2 weeks. Gotta fatten up the down payment for the 4th Gen!

Tesla can’t seem to sell an AWD model 3 sedan for less than 50k. And they’re a decade into the market with no dealer profit. And these are some of the best selling vehicles EV or not. So volume isn’t the issue.

Be lucky if $60k will get you 325hp 2wd and 350 mi range.

Yeah I don't like being the Guinea pig. I will stick to my NA inline 6. Maybe get a turbo down the line...doesn't look like I have much of an option unless I buy used.

EV are never going to cost less than they currently do now. There could be lower priced alternatives, and dicounts on top of the price set at the time of production. They will never be priced for less. EV wil always cost more than the equivalent ice model if one exists.

Incentives to buy EVs and disincentives to continue using ICE vehicles will have a major impact on cost of ownership.

Gas savings and a tax rebate only go so far when you have to pay a 50-70% premium over a comparable gas model.

The price of EVs will come down as new battery chemistry and design and production methods evolve. Tomorrow or next year. no. But it's inevitable.

Most technology doesn’t get cheaper, it gets better faster than it gets more expensive. Demand for range and power will negate any savings from scaling and production. Also consider Tesla and other makers aren’t building charging stations for free. The cost of that infrastructure is embedded in the cost of the vehicle.

edit - just to be clear I am pro EV. Just saying that trucks are hardly as amenable to EV conversion as are sedans and light aerodynamic vehicles. Trucks are going to be performance EVs that come at a huge premium.
