Well those that chose to not own aan EV don't have to buy one. Some EVs can be had for around $25k new. Some for millions. But people can choose to continue to buy ICE cars. Fact is people around the world continue to buy EVs. THat won't stop.

The price to manufacture an EV may come down if all of those things become cheaper. The price to purchase an EV wont reflect that. No manufactured products ever see a reduction in price. Certainly not automobiles of any type.

That has no bearing on the price of the vehicle set by the manufacturer.

See my edit in the previous comment. Not disputing there will be affordable EVs. But those are going to be Leaf/Bolt grade. Trucks are going to be performance vehicles, because instead of relying on inefficiency and added cost at the gas pump to get ICE powered trucks to perform well, the cost for a comparable EV is the truck itself.

Well not there 'will be' affordable EVs, they are available now. The EV used market is booming.

Never disputed that. In fact I directly agreed in the prev comment. Saying there will never be *cheap* BOF trucks that meet or beat the performance of our current mid and full sized gassers.

I’m wondering the same thing. I check multiple times a week (read: pretty much daily :anonymous: )

Maybe I’ll just trade my Subie for a Prius and keep rocking my olde 1st gen.

The thing that sucks is when they finally decide to drop the pricing, mpgs, and other specs we still probably will have a few months to see them on the lots

I'd like to see the difference in price between LA city FD's '22 Rosenbauer RTX electric engine and one of their '23 Pierce Arrow XT engines. Both come with extravagant price tags, and could be close in price. The electric probably costs more.

As a contractor who does primarily service which means I basically just haul around a few parts and tools, a Frunk is very high on my want list. I spent over 3k for a service friendly, but not contractor cap to secure my stuff. It would be amazing to skip that last step and use the truck Frunk.

So what if the manufacturer's price is higher than a comparable ICE vehicle? Cost of ownership. If you get a govt tax credit and then don't have to pay increased gas taxes (the disincentive) your net cost will be lower.

I have yet to see where the tax incentive nets a lower price than ice. EV net price could be lower, just havent seen any examples.

    https://www.govtech.com/fs/forget-range-anxiety-most-ev-drivers-have-charge-anxiety
“I would say the U.S. probably has one of the most complicated incentives of any developed EV market in the world,”

“It’s a really big administrative and informational burden for a lot of people.”

“It’s just the U.S. that does it in this extremely convoluted way,”

    Charge anxiety?

Depends on the vehicle but electricity isn’t free …about $15 to charge a model 3 at home, and rapid charge on the road is eventually going to cost multiples of that. About $40-50 to fill a comparable Corolla. Gas savings is going to be ~1000-1500/year if they’re lucky. Not a big enough incentive to spend a $15-20k premium upfront for a model 3. Especially with opportunity cost of money.

The rebate is $3750-7500 through 2032 depending on the car. But that’s a rebate for the manufacturer as much as it is for the buyer. They factor it into the vehicle price.

Though maintenance costs drop considerably, especially those who use the dealer.

My concern is future disincentives to continue using gasoline. Higher gas taxes and probably higher registration fees.

No sane government is going to tax poor working class who can’t afford a new vehicle, or a landscaper/tradesman who can’t put up $80-100k for a Lightening.

And barring an actual depletion of oil, lower demand = lower prices.

It would appear we need a dedicated EV thread for the folks who want the garbage.
