Lots of assets were mobilized. That airspace is crowded. 4 canadair scoopers, 2 balckhawks, 2 bell choppers, an MD87 air tanker and 2 air for bosses overhead. Three more tankers just rolling in, dehavilland dash 8, c130H and an unknown type.

Oddly the scoopers and filling at Williams lake, I guess clear lake is too close to the fire zone.

I was living in FL when Hurricane Andrew hit. The strangest part was how people raided the grocery stores and Walmart. So Walmart turned the lights on the back of the store and rolled out pallets of batteries and flashlights and put them up by the door. So people queued up in lines to get their purchase limit of batteries, flashlights, and emergency stuff.

That happens every time here. It's worse during tourist season because renters don't know what to do so if a storm is a week out the friggin milk can still be gone sometimes

I saw that map earlier today.

I live pretty far inland - so I'm insulated from a lot of the worst if the storms but still . . . just takes one downed pine tree to wreck shit.

The lower the fat content, the shorter the shelf life. I bet most goes bad and is poured down the drain.

I call them fire bosses and I don't know how that side works, but you will almost always have a twin turbo prop overhead while working fires. Obviously they have the birds eye view and can direct the assets where to go based on the fires movement. Most days I take time to find them to figure out where the active fires are as they are easy to find due to their flight pattern. Between that and NASA's assets up today watching the storm in the Pacific, been an interesting day watching ads-b data.

Anything that pushes hard off Africa you start to pucker up a bit until you know. Are you deeper south or mid Atlantic? Inland certainly helps!
