Hey guys, recently bought a 2020 TRDOR. It doesn't have the JBL head unit, but the one it has does have a map button. When you push the map button, it gives the message that the app isnt installed, yada yada. I've tried downloading Scout GPS and Scout GPS Link, but nothing worked. Any idea what I need to do to get maps working (without using CarPlay)?

Pretty sure if you don’t have the factory navigation option that’s all that button will do. The only way to have maps/nav is to use your phone with CarPlay/android auto.

There is integrated nav vs connected nav. Why even have the button if it doesn't work? I understand carplay nav is better, but super irritating to have something on the truck that doesn't work, and no way to make it work.

Not missing out on much. I had a 2020 offroad with the tech pack and no nav, it would do the same thing. Now my 2023 offroad has the nav and it's mostly useless. Carplay is more useful with live traffic from google maps.

It's a button. Do you think toyota should've made a headunit without the button for trucks without navigation? The bean counters think not

I use Google Maps from my Iphone and it 'talks' to me via the speakers. It's all I need.
CarPlay will work too but I find the graphics annoying and don't use it.

Seeing as how it's a 4k dollar upgrade to get the integrated nav, yes, I do think they should have made it different

When using car play you can jump between maps and other function in the unit. I sometime listen to the stereo. Then when I want to go back to Waze or Google maps I simply hit the map button and it goes to the map.
Of course this only works when hooked in to carplay.

My 2016 has Dynamic Navigation built into the head unit. Yes, my maps are old but it always gets me to my destination when I use it. No subscription needed which is one more reason I am keeping my 2016.

I do like Google Maps which I use in my wife’s Carolla which does not have Nav.

Got a wireless CarPlay adapter, works flawlessly and so much better than needing to plug in to use it. Phone never even leaves my pocket now, and it all works perfectly.
