All parts for the Ferris are here. Hopefully going to swap the stator and new regulator in this weekend and give it a go. Tested new stator, no continuity to ground so shouldn’t be DOA.

Looking forward to putting this project behind me and just being able to finally cut my grass problem free without screwing with the damn thing.

Then onto the mini skid steer.

Man I hate stupid problems. So this flail came with 2 blown out 13x5-6 tires. I tried searching for new tires and rims as the rims are pretty crusty and was simply going to replace them. The rims have an offset which is hard to find for some reason at a reasonable price. I ended up going with some 13x5-6 rims and tires pictured above, but they are really maybe 4" wide and the side with the motor really puts a bunch of weight on that one side.

Having a bunch of 15x6-6 rims and tires, I figured I could maybe solve a few issues and save some money going with what I have. Fits fine on the non-motor side, but rubs the axle mount on the motor side...ugh. The motor side has to go around the rotor pulley and is squared off and rubs the tire, whereas the non motor side is more angled in, like the lower half of a capital A, so it fits inside the rim/tire.

I guess I am going to cut the motor side axle off and weld on a new 3/4" axle all because it is short by about 1/2"...

nice! I picked this one up last week with a “free” sign on it at the end of someone’s driveway. I wasn’t so lucky though. It didn’t seem to have spark so i put a new coil on it tonight and doesn’t seem any different. I cant physically see the spark on the plug but it did shock me a bit but wont fire. Not sure what I’ll try next, if anything.

Check the flywheel key for partial sheering. Chipper/shredders had issues with this if they jammed quickly.

Even if the key is just slightly off, it won't run.

Saw one at local pawn shop looks small. I think I might have to spend the money and get a electric start and self feed one in the near future.

Question about cleaning underside of mower deck on Zero Turn mowers.

Forgive my Noob question. I've had my zero turn for a few months now, have about 28 - 30 hours on it. I was just wondering if I need to jack the front up and check to see if I need to scrape any clumps of grass out of the mower deck. Back in the day when I used a traditional walk behind mower, every year or so I ended up having to do this, as the grass would build up and reduce the effectiveness of the blades.

My John Deere ZT has a garden hose attachment on the deck, I used it once, but nothing washed out from under the deck. I have a floor jack that I can use to jack up the mower front end, it just isn't the easiest thing for my broken ass to get down on the ground and roll around underneath cars/trucks/mowers any longer, so wanted to get some advice before attempting to look for myself.

The plastic ejection port "door" has a good bit of caked on grass, so I am expecting the underside of the deck will also.

    Reserected from the dead.

A floor jack with a pressure washer will help you get a large portion of the dried on grass. Soak it the night before to soften the dried on clumps.

Remember, vegetation when it rots becomes acidic. Get rid of the dead grass on top after every mowing. Then get rid of the bottom stuff once a season.

It's a good idea to blow off the deck and the motor to get rid of the grass clippings.

I purchased 2 mowers this year that had engine fires from the grass stuck to the engines.

I'm paranoid about parking a hot mower in the garage, now.

"Borrow" one of your wife's hand mirrors to look underneath the mower deck. An alternative to using a floor jack, if you have some vehicle ramps you could drive the front of the mower onto them, but you'd still have to lay on the ground to see what is stuck under the deck.

Great info, much appreciated. I have a Milwaukee battery powered leaf blower. I am meticulous about blowing off every bit of grass/gunk I can after every single mow session. I even tilt the seat and raise the floor board portion to blast everything out of those areas. I also blow out the engine compartment.

I have the floor jack and jack stands, no ramps. Not sure if my wife has any hand held mirrors... she has a table mounted mirror for her make-up, but that ain't an option ;)

Thank you both for the advice.

Once/season I’ll scrape the underside of my zero turn, unless I mow really wet grass. Then it’s done after that mowing. Always blow it off. Once/year remove the fan cover on the motor and blow it out too. It accumulates a lot of crap and makes the mower run hot.

After seeing the underside of my flywheel on the old motor I removed, I’m tempted to pull the flywheel every spring and clean out the magnets and stator. Magnets were PACKED with debris.

Those deck wash things are a hit or miss. Deck has to be all the way down on the lowest setting to really work. Don't try this on your yard, don't ask me how I know... :anonymous:

I don't use mine anymore. I'll put my mower on some car ramps and scrape everything large out by hand and then pressure wash everything. Probably not good for the bearings, but I seem to go through a set of spindles every couple years anyways... :anonymous:

Sweet! I love the fact that you can put it in neutral to move it around the shop and also that you can put it in gear without the tines moving to transport it to the yard.

:frusty::nuclear:Mower only ran for 12 minutes… back to shop under warranty. :annoyed::bananadead:

At the end of my wits here. 16 weeks in prime mowing season and I have to pay someone to mow because my 2 year old mower is at the shop again.
