Most of the day was maintenance related. New tires, new front brake pads, and flushed brake fluid. Got a short test ride in t check my work.

Pulled final drive to lube driveshaft splines while the back tire was off.

Got my money's worth out of the front pads, 61k miles on them. Changed 3 out of 4 pairs. Right caliper lower pistons are linked to the rear brake and I don't use much rear brake so they're still in good shape. Had a set on hand just in case. Brake fluid was due for a flush so took care of all of it today.

    You rolling EBC pads?

It’s the DHM kit with S1 cam. I did some mild port and polish of the head and manifold.
This is when I found out how different the 2019 monkey and 2022 Grom engines are different. The Monkey has a shorter stroke crank and a larger bore to make 125cc where the Grom has a smaller bore and longer stroke. IMO the Monkey engine is better. I have a stock bore high compression piston, dhm cam, tb exhaust and mnnthbx intake dhm ecu flash. It feels like it is just as fast as the 149cc kit on the Grom. The 143cc piston is larger than the 149cc piston.
As far as how the 149cc kit feels? Well it’s a noticeable power difference for sure compared to the stock bore High compression piston, S1 cam, chimera intake that I replaced. It has noticeably more torque but only a couple more MPH on the top end. It allowed me to go back to stock gearing and to me it’s perfect for this combo. The other combo worked better with 14t front stock 38t rear. I am also stock gearing on the monkey. It just works.

Just got back from a 250 mile back road rip on the R3. Damn I love this bike. Plenty of power, super light, awesome handling and so so comfortable to ride. It gets 50+mpg riding aggressively. Can’t hate that. Love the sound of the graves exhaust.

…and it only makes you a better rider. I am a huge fan of going backwards in HPs. While I enjoy the big vtwin, riding the smaller displacements bikes has way more useable and enjoyable power. I bet that exhaust sounds sweet banging thru those gears.

And you just can’t beat a new bike that cost $5500 and looks and drives so good. I am with you man, the mid-upper 300 class is extremely appealing.

Not sure if any of you have ever ridden an Aprilia 125cc Race Bike, but I used to dog one of those out. I mean you could get yourself into some seriously fun track days on a super light small displacement bike.

Man you could throw that thing around and it felt like it was on rails. Miss that little bike. Traded it for an SV, which also turned into a nice little track bike.

No, OEM Yamaha. I have run a set of EBC rear pads once on my FJR, worked decently enough but short life offset any cost savings. Yamaha factory pads give decent mileage and bought online aren't too bad.

Chuck do you have red reflective stickers on your rims? I ask because I have them on my ebike and they look cool. I'm thinking about putting them on my Bonneville, blue ones to match the bike. The yellow ones on my ebike really light up and make you seen!

Yes, with the long distance rallying and riding I have done being conspicuous is very important to me. I use Taylor brand and put them on myself when I have the wheels off to change tires. I've had several compliments on them. Definitely helps at dusk or early mornings.

It's almost 2x the cost but I really want the ZX4RR.

I added a silly mod today:

    upload_2023-8-19_17-5-22.png

I can see the propeller spinning while riding and it's hilarious.

When at the motorcycle dealer today I finally got to sit on an R7. It’s a more aggressive riding position than the ZX10R. I didn’t like it at all. Especially after being on the R3 which is super comfortable. It would need bar risers. Otherwise nice looking bike. There was one being sold and the other had a guy waiting to buy today.

I might have just looked to see how much racing fairings would be for my SV. $500 not terrible.

Finally sold the Navi today. My friend that bought it was a little nervous so I took her to a parking lot nearby then followed her home after she got a bit more comfortable. She looked much more suitable for it than I ever did haha. Kinda sad to see that bike go, though. I didn't ride it much but it was a fun little toy. Oh well, sold it for $2100, bought it OTD for $2400ish. Not a bad loss for a year of fun on it.

Aw man, glad it's going to a good home though. I still kick the idea around of selling mine to get a Grom but I would never be able to replace it.

I'd be happy to get $2100-2200 for mine.

She bought a yamaha v-star 650 as her first bike and it almost turned her off to riding as a whole, she was so excited to get the Navi. I helped her get it running so she could sell it a few weekends ago and taking it out around the block it was almsot too big for me, I wasn't comfortable on it size and weight-wise, so I can't imagine how awful it was for her to ride.

I feel good about the transaction as a whole and know it'll get ridden a whole lot more, just a little nostalgic on it, yknow.
