Nope, I get that. I enjoy just going for a drive too, just haven’t done as much/far as you. The drive IS the destination.

We have about 300 miles of dirt roads in the state forest up in the north end of my county and another couple hundred in the county to our east. Right after I retired I put in some dirt miles getting the job out of my head.

Money is exchanging hands! Transaction nearly completed then they start the 10 hour drive home.

The sale is taking place in ND, then ND law applies.

We thought so, too, but licensing it in Montana read like it required a notarized bill of sale even if it was from out of state. Worse case, it was only $20 and took 10 minutes to do it online. We just preferred to cover our bases because having to regroup later after they're home would be worse.

I'm curious how an online notary is going to work. When you go to a person to notarize the BOS, they have a special raised stamp to mark the BOS after they have verified the ID's of the people they witnessed signing the document. How does an online service verify anything or mark the document, so it can be later identified that it is the same document?

    That's different..

Although living here in PA if I sell a vehicle to a person that lives in PA we have to go to a notary to sign the title over. However I can buy a vehicle in Maryland (or any other state) and just need the signed title and a picture of the VIN. o_O

It was basically the same as a digital signature on a pdf. We were sent a document that is recognized as being legit, just like the raised stamp version is.

That's why we didn't even think to look into the rules for another state, we just assumed the ND laws won since that's where the sale was taking place and ours is simple.

It's entirely possible we were misreading things and they won't end up needing it but with them being 750 miles away, for the time and cost we weren't going to not do it.

Is there a back story why they bought a vehicle so far from home?

Finding a 1st gen Honda Pilot that isn't a complete rot box is almost impossible now adays. Some people really liked the 1st gens compared to the other gens. That's my guess.

The answer is quite simple. The person that bought it is a friend of my niece. She also met up with my niece and my wife in SLC for a Pride and Prejudice thing a few years ago.

I still love to drive I have the skill of finding the steepest hills in the the area I drive.

The high fuel costs have changed that habit but for a few times i just needed to go for a ride.

Now for the most I get gas once a month I might drive 60 miles a month pretty much for groceries.
